F-15SG Jet Fighters Ready For Action

Singapore's Defence Minister, Dr. Ng Eng Hen, was at Paya Lebar Air Base to declare the new F-15SG multi-role fighter aircraft are operationally ready. He was officiating the ceremony to mark Full Operational Capability status of the 149 Squadron which was formed in 1995.

Vietnamese Lady Arrested For Drugs

A 22-year-old Vietnamese female national was arrested at Changi Airport for 6.25kg of ICE (Methamphetamine, psychoactive drugs) worth $1.25 Million. A detailed search of the luggage found about 6.25kg of 'Ice' hidden in the false side compartments of the luggage.


Public Officers Have To Declare Their Visits To Casino

The Singapore Government is tightening rules on civil servants visiting casinos. Public officers who visit casinos in Singapore frequently or buy the annual casino entry levy will soon need to declare these actions. Recently, a former assistant director at the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), Edwin Yeo, was charged with criminal breach of trust involving S$1.7 million.


Chinaman Jail For Theft Onboard Jet

A Chinese national was sentenced to nine months' jail term, the harshest punishment meted out so far, for theft on board an aircraft. On 8 June 2013, the 32-year-old Yue Liangfu stole a brown trolley bag belonging to 69-year-old Cambodian, Kuy Touch, during a SilkAir (subsidiary of SIA) flight from Singapore to Phnom Penh.


Hazardous Haze Arrived

Singapore is hit by smoky air and hazy skies with a strong burning smell. The smoke haze from the fires in Sumatra started about a week back and hit an all time high of 401 PSI (Pollutant Standards Index) at 12pm. The Singapore Environment Ministry said in a statement that 180 hotspots were detected over Sumatra in Indonesia on Tuesday (18 June 2013) which lead to the "bad haze" in Singapore carried over by the monsoon winds. Outlets selling 3M's N95 Particle Respirator Mask were doing a roaring business and a firm selling air purifier posted a full page advertisement in national newspaper.


Civil Defense Chief Guilty Of Sex-For-Contracts

The Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Peter Lim Sin Pang (age 52), was found guilty on Friday of corruptly obtaining oral sex from Ms Pang Chor Mui, the ex-general manager of Nimrod Engineering. Lim will be jailed for six months. Lim also faces nine other counts of corruptly obtaining sexual favours from two other women. The prosecution will decide on whether to proceed with those charges at a later date.


NUS Law Professor Guilty Of Sex-For-Grades

The law professor of National University of Singapore (NUS), Tey Tsun Hang (Age 42), implicated in the sex-for-grades case has been found guilty of corruption after a trial that lasted for five months, from January to May. Prof Tey was convicted of six counts of corruptly obtaining sexual gratification in the form of gifts and sex from Ms. Darinne Ko Wen Hui, in return for giving her better grades between May and July 2010.


Singapore Flyer Not Spinning Well

Singapore Flyer announced that it's operator, Singapore Flyer Pte Ltd (UEN: 200306169R), is in receivership and appointed Accounting firm Ferrier Hodgson as the receiver and manager of the company's charged assets. This is 5 years after its grand opening in 2008. The flyer took 3 years to construct.


Free Entry To The Museums

Singaporeans and permanent residents (PR) will be able to enjoy free entry to all national museums and heritage institutions from 18 May 2013. This was announced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong.
