2 Loanshark Sidekicks Jailed

2 men were sent to prison for five years and three years for helping loansharks (unlicensed moneylenders) to harass their victims. Muhammad Harfiyan Ahjiman, 22-year old, was jailed 5 years and given 10 strokes of the cane. His 21-year old buddy, Muhammad Faizal Abdul Razak, who acted as Mr. Ahjiman lookout was jailed for 3 years with 8 strokes. They had used a hammer to smash the window panels of two HDB housing units at Hougang on 30 Nov 2009. They also sprayed painted and wrote graffiti on staircase landings as well as chained the main doors of units at Jurong West and Bukit Batok Central with padlocks.

First-time offenders found guilty of assisting loansharks (Ah Longs) could be jailed up to four years and fined a maximum of S$300,000. These would include persons who were involved as runners, harassers and recruiters for loansharking operations.
