Ground Broke At SUTD

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Singapore's fourth publicly-funded university, has just started construction work at their permanent campus at Changi. Phase 1, which comprises academic and residential blocks, will be completed by 2015.

SUTD will begin classes in April 2012 with an initial cohort of 500 students in a temporary campus. SUTD has an the depth of collaboration with its two partners, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US and the Zhejiang University in China.


Photo Credit: Flickr. Academic disciplines such as engineering and architecture are referred to as "pillars". And linked by bridges and common spaces to encourage interaction. Buildings will be laid out and tilted to maximise natural sunlight and ventilation. There will also be a bio-retention pond to irrigate plants using recycled water.
