SIA Boeing 747 Has Landed

Mr Yong Nyuk Lin, then Minister for Communications at the welcoming ceremony of the first two SIA-Boeing 747s at Paya Lebar Airport on Monday 3 September 1973 at 1600 hours. The two new Boeing 747 was be introduced in October 1973. Another Boeing 747 will be introduced next year in October 1974 and the fourth Boeing 747 will be introduced in 1975.

SIA Chairman, Mr. J Y M Pillay, presented the first set of of annual accounts after its formation in 1972. It provided an optimistic outlook for Singapore Airlines. During the first six months of operation, it earned $20.2 million pre-tax profits as compared to $19.5 million with the old MSA, despite the hiving off a third of its business.

By March 1973, SIA is in 4 continents with over 67,800km unduplicated routes. SIA is "girding" itself for the coming revolution of leisure travel in Aisa, hard on the heels of the phenomena experienced in Europe and American in the last 10 years.
