Gardens by the Bay Opened

Gardens by the Bay welcome it first visitor. The new garden has an elevated walkway between some of the larger Supertrees for visitors to enjoy a breathtaking aerial view of the Gardens. A food and beverage outlet has also been planned atop the 50-metre Supertree. At night, the Supertrees come alive with lighting and project media.

Singapore long haul budget carrier, Scoot, took to the skies with its inaugural flight to Sydney, Australia. The plane load of 400 budget traveller departed from Singapore Changi Airport at 11.25pm. Hello Australia!

Heron To Replace Searcher UAVs

RSAF is replacing all its IAI Searcher Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which have been in use since 1994, with the more advanced IAI Heron-1 UAV. A key feature of the new Heron UAV is its fully automatic take-off and landing capability.


RSAF Airmen To Train With Italian Air Force

Two airmen from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) left for Brindisi in Italy early this morning. RSAF and the Italian Air Force (ITAF) signed a Technical Agreement to train Singapore military personnel in Italy. The agreement sets the terms of the participation of six Singaporean trainee pilots to the ITAF flying training program in Lecce Air Base (Comune di Galatina, Provincia di Lecce, South-Eastern Italy), to obtain the Military Pilot Licence with Aermacchi MB-339A Advanced Jet Trainer at ITAF 213 Squadron (AMI 213ยบ Gruppo).


F1 IPO In Singapore

The the motor-racing franchise, Formula One Group, will be listed in the Singapore Exchange (SGX) for an initial public offering (IPO) that is valued nearly 4 Billion Singapore Dollars (US$3 Billion). According to its owner, Singapore was picked as the venue for the IPO because it has been hosting grand prix racing since 2008 and is home to a strong fan base for the sport. It is one of the biggest IPO in Singapore.


Indonesia to take control of the airspace above Riau

Indonesia would take control of the airspace above Riau Islands (about 20 kilometers south of Singapore), currently controlled by Singapore since 1946, from 2025. Singapore is willing to hand over control of the airspace above Riau Islands, earlier provided that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) gives the green light.


Guinea Fish To Monitor Water Quality

Singapore's Public Utility Board (PUB) has developed a new automated system which uses fish as "Guinea Pigs" to monitor water quality.The system uses cameras to monitor the activity of a group of freshwater tiger barbs, which is then analysed to detect signs of distress that could indicate a problem with the water.


One Of Facebook Founder Takes Up Residency

Eduardo Saverin, one of the founders of Facebook.com, took up a more tax-friendly residency status in Singapore. Mr. Saverin was living in Singapore since 2010 and plans to remain here "indefinitely". He was born to a wealthy family in Brazil and gained American citizenship at the age of 17 in 1998. He then renounced his American citizenship after holding it for twelve years.
