Highest Visitor Arrival Into Singapore

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) claimed that tourist arrivals in 2011 reached a record 13.2 million, a rise of 13 percent from the previous year in 2010. Tourism receipts were at a record S$22.2 billion for 2011. The highest number of visitors came from Indonesia at 2,592,000 which is followed by China (1,577,000), Malaysia (1,141,000), Australia (956,000) and India (869,000). The biggest growth sector for Singapore in terms of dollars spent was visits to the Singapore’s two casinos – Resort World and Sands – Huat Ah!

Vegetarian Food Stall Owner To Sue Sands

A 58-year old Vegetarian Food Stall Owner, Madam Choo Hong Eng, felt short-changed by Sands Casino. According to her, she had struck jackpot win of S$416,000. Instead of paying her the full amount, the Casino told her there was a hitch in the system and her price money was only S$50,000 plus a sports car. So it will be case of Madam Choo (The Jackpot-er) vs. Mister Adelson (The Casino Owner).

Update: The casino agreed to pay her the full amount – with CCTV footage and eye-witnesses to back her claim. Also she gave her statement at the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA). As Madam Choo was enjoying herself in Taiwan at the time when the casino made the decision, was informed by her lawyer. Madam Choo has plague to donate $200,000 to charity. Hum… which charity??? Million Locals Visited The Two Casinos

Government announced that more one million locals (Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident) visited the two Casinos (Sands and Resort World) since it opened seven months ago. As every locals that visited needs to pay a $100 entrance fee, which meant that the government gross one hundred million dollars during this period. Even this good money for the government, they did raise some social concerns. Recently the government stop the two casinos from operating free shuttle bus services which ply the heartlands.

The two integrated resorts (IRs) violated casino restrictions and safeguards by providing free shuttle services to locals. As such, the government has halted such bus shuttles offered by the integrated resorts as they are in violation of casino regulations. Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) also ran afoul of rules by promoting casino rewards programmes in heartland shopping centres. The Casino Regulatory Authority’s (CRA) was swift in stamping out the errant actions ‘conveys a clear signal to both IR operators to confine promotional efforts for the casinos to tourists only’.

Marina Bay Sands Casino set its focus is on high-end business travellers as well as the meetings and convention sectors. Unlike Resorts World Sentosa which targets leisure travellers mainily from Malaysia and Mainland China. Sands will opened the S$7.7 billion Marina Bay project in phases. In this phase one opening, only the hotel rooms, part of the shopping mall, 3 restaurants and most importantly the casino was opened. Marina Bay Sands has received its casino licence from the Singapore Government just in time for this opening.

The 1.3km-long two-way road spanning over Marina Bay, between Marina Boulevard and Raffles Avenue opened for traffic at 3pm. Comprising a vehicular bridge and the newly constructed Bayfront Avenue, it will also pass through the upcoming Marina Bay Sands (MBS) integrated resort. This vehicular bridge was officially named as “Bayfront Bridge“.

Caught Stealing Chips From Casino

Ooi Boon Huat, an Unemployed 56 year-old man, caught stealing by Sentosa Resort World Casino security at about 12.10pm.  He had stolen 10 pieces of 500 cash chips amounting to $5,000. Mr. Ooi is the second person that is investigated by the Casino Crime Investigation Branch of Criminal Investigation Department to be brought to court.

Singapore’s Resort World Casino successfully opened on Chinese New Year (14 February 2009) and made 3.6 Millions Dollars on its first day of operations. The new casino draws large crowds of gamblers and casual visitors to its compound. In the first week of operations, the casino received more than 149,000 visitors. Sentosa’s casino, Resorts World, open on the first day of Chinese New Year. The S$6.6 billion casino welcomes its first public guests at the auspicious time of 12:18 pm, It is said that 12 18 when pronounced in Cantonese (a Chinese Dialect) sounds like “striking prosperity”, which meant to bring good luck to the Casino owners. Admission will be by S$10 tickets, according to the casino, was meant only to ensure crowd control and to prevent over-crowding. Singaporeans and Permanent Residences have to pay a $100 Government Levy to enter the casino, while foreigner and tourist gets in for free.
