Cavenagh Bridge is the grand old lady of the Singapore River bridges. Built in 1869, the bridge was named in honour of Colonel Cavenagh, the last India-appointed Governor of Singapore. It was originally designed as a drawbridge but on its completion was found only to be suitable only as a fixed structure. It is now a pedestrain bridge. Lots of steel rivets are used in its construction and steel casting common contruction methods used during that era.
