Evolution Garden is geographically located at latitude 1° 19' 1" North of the Equator and longitude 103° 48' 55" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Singapore. The Evolution Garden at Singapore Botanic Garden is a 1.5-hectare area that provides a time journey through the plant kingdom from 4,400 millions years ago till today. It demonstrates past changes, from the fiery planet of antiquity to the time when life was only in the oceans, to the age of ferns, cycads and dinosaurs and to the modern world of beautiful flowering plants. How do plants evolve and adapt over time? On the entrance of the Evolution Garden, you will encounter columns of stones which are petrified tree trunks (fossilised) remains of real ancient tree. The petrified tree trunks have been completely altered and the organic matter has been replaced by Silica. Some of these fossilised tree trunks are be more than 3 metres long and 1 metre in diameter as the Fossil woods weigh a few tonnes.
