Kranji Dam is an earth filled Dam across the former river which has been dammed at its mouth to form a freshwater storage Kranji Reservoir in 1976. It has four tidal gate towers to control three huge tidal gates, which is used to regulate the level of water in a reservoir during a heavy downpour by releasing excess water via a 135-m-long channel and flowed into the Johor Strait. This is to ensure that the dam which separates the reservoir from the sea is not endangered and there will be no flooding upstream.
