Lookout Point - Singapore or JB
Lookout Point is geographically located at latitude 1° 20' 57" North of the Equator and longitude 103° 46' 30" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Singapore. Granite Quarry Lookout Point. Granite quarry activities began just before World War II, in the 1930s. It involved the use of dynamite charges embedded into the granite to blast into granite chips for use in construction. At its peak in 1970s, there were 1200 workers working in such granite quarry. When quarrying operations ceased in the 1988, the quarry pit (bottom) was around 18 metres below sea level. Rain water was allowed to fill the pit. Because of the impermeable nature of the igneous granite formation, water is retained. In 2008, 20 years after its closure, it starts to to run off at a point about 35 metres above sea level.
