The old Namazie Estate was a rubber plantation. It has been converted to a protected military excercise area. On 28 January 1942 the area was involved in the heavy fighting between the Australian Forces and the invading Japanese Forces. That day and the next the Australian battalion inflicted heavy casualties on the Japanese. The Namazie Estate was owned by Mohamed Javad Namazie (of Persian stock) which migrated to Singapore in the early 1900s from India. Mohamed Javad Namazie was a partner in Mallal & Namazie law firm. Mohamed Javad Namazie won a seat in the Municipal North-East 1948 General Election.
