New Supreme Court was designed by Lord Norman Foster, a world-renowned architect, and his team of architects from Foster and Partners. The building was designed to enhance the functionality of the court. When completed, it will house courtrooms ranging in size from 120 m2 to 250 m2, to cater to different types of hearings, whether criminal or civil. This is an improvement from the present Supreme Court building and the City Hall, where there is only one standard design for courtrooms. The New Supreme Court building will also include features to enhance security. For example, the routes for judges and the public are kept separate from accused persons. This is in contrast to the existing courtrooms in City Hall, where common corridors are used. The design of the new building will also facilitate better security clearances.
