The Singapore Polo Club was established in 1886. The Singapore Polo Club is one of the oldest social and recreational clubs here and has evolved into Singapore's premier equestrian facility offering a wide range of horseback riding activities as well as other sports. The game of polo is played on grass, a full size field being 275 metres long and 180 metres wide. Two teams of four players mounted on horses compete to put a 8.8 cm polo ball through goal posts standing at one end or the other of the field. A complete polo match consists of either 7 chukkas of 7 minutes for each chukka. During the fast play, the co-ordination of man and horse requires split second timing and reactions of both and is indeed a thrilling sight to watch. The play is usually so intense that players normally require to mount fresh horses after each chukka.

The Singapore Polo Club is located at 80 Mount Pleasant Road, Singapore 298334. At the Singapore Polo Club, polo is usually played throughout the year, although it is usual to close the field and rest the polo ponies during the rainest months of June and December. Practice club chukkas are played on Tuesdays, Thursdays as well as Saturday and Sunday, commencing normally at about 5pm. The Club welcomes spectators to the club to view these practice chukkas as well tournament matches.
