Ulu Pandan Water Reclamation Plant, previously known as Ulu Pandan Sewerage (Sia Chwee Tee), was construction in 1961. Ulu Pandan Sewerage Treatment Works used to generates foul air from various processes throughout the plant as it handles about 75,000 m3 of waste water a day. It has implemented an ultra-strict odor control system that reduced the buffer zone around the plant, thus releasing the surrounding land for residential and recreational uses. With subterranean features, the facility uses 50% of the space required for a conventional treatment works of the same capacity. The design included a two-stage aeration treatment process - the first such application of this process in Asia. Sludge is processed in a dedicated facility, thickened by centrifuges, conveyed to egg-shaped digesters, dewatered, and hauled off site. The two-stage process achieves a high level of treatment while the effluent quality is less affected by incoming loading fluctuations as in conventional processes. All facilities are enclosed and air is treated in and four-stage scrubber and carbon adsorption system.
