The launching of Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel, soft toys donning the Japanese weeding dress, were released at McDonald's outlet. In the rush in their bid to purchase the toys a riot was started. Six people were arrested at different outlets for disorderly conduct.
S R Nathan As President

Mr S. R. Nathan (Sellapan Ramanathan Nathan) was sworn in as the Republic of Singapore’s sixth President and the second popularly elected President. The President of the Republic of Singapore is the Presidency of popularly-elected office. In the 1991 constitutional amendments gave the President certain reserve powers over government expenditure of financial reserves and appointments to key public offices. The President’s official residence is the Istana.
Flying-Car Stunt At National Stadium

Internationally-acclaimed Taiwanese stunt sensation, Mr Ko Shou Liang (1953 - 2003), a.k.a. "Blackie", wowed the packed audience at the National Stadium with his Flying-Car stunt during the mega-fundraising event for Ren Ci Hospital. The car "fly" straight into a pile of inflated air bags. Also supporting this cause were Andy Lau, Eric Tsang, Jackie Wu, Jeff Chang and many more luminaries.
Sing Singapore Bus

Hop on the singing bus for those who fancied singing Singapore songs. The Sing Singapore Bus was brought to 98 venues around the island where they could join others to belt out the songs. Bukit Timah GRC MP Ms. Yu-Foo Yee Shoon launched the special bus service at the Toa Payoh Bus Interchange.
Money No Enough

Money No Enough is a movie directed by the local movie director, Jack Neo. Money No Enough was released in cinemas in the wake of the 1998s Asian financial crisis. The film is about three friends with various financial struggles, who start a car polishing business together. The film earned over S$5.8 million and remains Singapore’s all-time highest-grossing film. And it catapulted Neo into the local movie limelight. The Singaporean film industry experienced a revival following the success of the film.
Studio flats for the elderly

The Housing Board (HDB) unveiled a new type of housing – studio apartments targeted at Singaporean HDB flat-owners aged 55 or older. For a start, it would build 580 units at four sites in Tampines, Bedok, Yishun and Jurong East. Minister for National Development Lim Hng Kiang said the partially-furnished studio apartments would have elderly-friendly features and would be sold on 30-year leases which could be renewed for another 10 years.
Racial Harmony Day Launched

Racial Harmony Day was first launched on 21 July 1997. It is part of the National Education Programme, headed by the Ministry of Education and is celebrated on the anniversary of the communal riots that occurred on 21 July 1964.
No RSAF Pilot Have Intruded Into Johor Airspace

The RSAF always conducts a thorough investigation whenever an intrusion is alleged. As of date, no RSAF pilot found to have intruded into Johor airspace. Should the pilot be found to have broken the rules, he will be dealt with severely.
Brother Of PUB Deputy Chief-Executive Jailed

58-year-old Chui Fook Thim pleaded guilty to helping his brother, former PUB Deputy CEO Choy Hon Tim, flee abroad to evade the law. For that, Mr. Chui was sentenced to a 6-month jail term, becoming the first in Singapore to be convicted of such an offence.
RSAF buys 4 tanker planes from US

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) buy four used tanker planes for mid-air refuelling. The KC-135 plane will be used to support the RSAF's fleet of F-16 fighter aircraft in overseas training and exercises.
