Dr Goh Keng Swee Passed On

Singapore's former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Dr Goh Keng Swee, died after battling a long illness. In 1984 Dr Goh retired from politics where he had served as Deputy Prime Minister for 11 years. Dr Goh was educated at Anglo Chinese School and then studied economics at Raffles College. A scholarship took him to the London School of Economics where he obtaining his PhD in 1956.
Table Tennis Player Named Sportswoman of Year

Ms Feng Tianwei, a national table tennis player, was named Sportswoman of the Year by Singapore National Olympic Council (Singapore Sports Council). Ms Feng was born in Harbin, China, but became a Singapore citizen in January 2008. She represented Singapore for the 2008 Summer Olympics in the women's table tennis team tournament. Feng and her teammates won a silver medal.
Youth Olympic Park Opened

The Youth Olympic Park, Singapore's first art park, was officially opened. It is located in the entrance of The Helix bridge. In the park, you can enjoy an enriching and interactive art experience, and explore 27 winning artworks by Singapore youths that are based on the theme, "Aspirations for life in Singapore".
HDB To Upgrade 85,000 Households

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has committed $1 billion to upgrade eight towns. The eight towns are in the Central zone like Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bishan, Serangoon, Kallang/Whampoa, Queenstown, Bukit Merah and Central. This upgrade plan was announced by Deputy PM and Minister for Home Affairs, Wong Kan Seng announced this at the HDB's 50th anniversary celebrations.
Anti-PAP Fliers Found

Anti-PAP (People's Action Party) fliers urging residents to take 'collective and concerted action to go against the PAP' have been circulated in Sengkang Housing Estate. These unsigned fliers were found stuffed in letterboxes of HDB Blocks 244 to 256, Compassvale Road. The A4-size flier with the criticisms written in both English and Chinese, made allegations about corruption and exploitation and complained about cost of living issues, among other things.
2 Loanshark Sidekicks Jailed

2 men were sent to prison for five years and three years for helping loansharks (unlicensed moneylenders) to harass their victims. Muhammad Harfiyan Ahjiman, 22-year old, was jailed 5 years and given 10 strokes of the cane. His 21-year old buddy, Muhammad Faizal Abdul Razak, who acted as Mr. Ahjiman lookout was jailed for 3 years with 8 strokes. They had used a hammer to smash the window panels of two HDB housing units at Hougang on 30 Nov 2009. They also sprayed painted and wrote graffiti on staircase landings as well as chained the main doors of units at Jurong West and Bukit Batok Central with padlocks.
Tom Jones Show Cancelled

Sir Tom Jones, 69-year-old British Singer and Performer, has cancelled his show at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). Sir Jones' doctor has advised him against doing the April Fools Night Show as he could risk permanent damage to his vocal cord. Sir Tom Jones was recently diagnosed with acute laryngitis.
Fined For Showing Breasts

Three foreign performing artistes 35-year old Bernadeth Sonido, 28-year old Michelle Alejo Bacorro and 26-year old Lourdes Dela Cruz, 26 were fined $1,000 each for pulling up their blouses which then exposed their bare breasts and raw nipples on 5th June 5 2009 inside the Knights Pub & Karaoke along Duxton Road.
First Woman Charge With Incest

A 22-year-old women charged with an alleged to have committed incest willingly her bedroom in a Serangoon flat. The offence committed in April 2008 with her 46-year-old father. This is the first case of its kind in Singapore. She have willing allowing her father to have sex with her. If convicted, she faces a jail term of up to five years.
Cyclist Killed By Drunken Driver

Benjamin Mok, a 35-year-old freelance writer, died after being knock down from behind by a suspected drunken driver while cycling along along Clementi Road, in the direction of Upper Bukit Timah Road at around 9:30pm. The other cyclist, Bertram Leong, which was also hit by the same car is still in hospital. The suspect was arrested and is currently out on bail.
