Ong Eng Guan won Hong Lim by-election

Ong Eng Guan registered a new party, the United People's Party (UPP) , he won the Hong Lim by-election defeating PAP candidate Jek Yuan Thong, which proved a blow to the PAP for the leaders. Ong Eng Guan was expelled from the PAP less than a year earlier.
Second Go-Kart Race In Singapore

The Singapore Motor Club and the Forces Motoring Club jointly organised the second Go-Kart race in Police Training School (Police Academy). There was be six racing events including a 25-laps race for the open category and 10-laps race for ladies category.
Big Fire At Potong Pasir

100 villagers lose homes in morning blaze which broke out shortly after 11 a.m. The destroyed nine attap houses in a kampong at Potong Pasir. off Serangoon Road. The Minister for Labour and Law. Mr. K. M. Byrne, visited Potong Pasir and distributed $10 and rice to each of the fire victims. About $1,000 was donated by the public through the Council of Social Services. The rice was contributed by the Catholic Welfare Service.
First Go-Kart Race In Singapore

Singapore Forces Motor Club hold its first Go-kart Race at Dover Road 40 Base Workshop carpark (off Ayer Rajah Road). A special 10-lap event om several locally constructed go-karts will compete against an American model driven by Mr. J. N. Fredrickson.
Singapore Go-Kart Club Formed

The Singapore Go-Kart Club was formed and will be organising Go-Kart Racing in Singapore. The Club is affiliated to the Singapore Motor Club. Go-Kart racing was first introduced in 1957 in the United States.
cleaning the city

Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew today led a mass drive to spring-clean the city for National Loyalty Week, and also to time with the official installation of Singapore’s Yang di-Pertuan Negara on December 3. Three other Ministers also joined thousands of volunteers on the first day of the one-week giant campaign known as Gerakkan Pembersehan Bandar Raya Singapura. He said the government aimed to make Singapore as one of the cleanest and healthiest cities in Asia.
National Anthem Majulah Singapura

The national anthem Majulah Singapura, written by Zubir Said, was presented. Students of the then University of Malaya had the distinction of being the first to welcome a Cabinet minister with the Singapore's National Anthem. Interestingly, Minister for Home Affairs Ong Pang Boon was attending a rally in the Bukit Timah campus to celebrate Malaysia’s independence. After the playing of the Malaysia anthem, Mr Ong was greeted by “Majulah Singapura”.
Lee Kuan Yew Singapore First Prime Minister

Lee Kuan Yew, leader of PAP political party, was sworn in as Prime Minister of Singapore at the age of 35.
Singapore Constitution Exposition 1959

The Singapore Constitution Exposition (SCE) 1959 at Kallang Park (abandon runway of Old Kallang Airport) was organised by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the full internal self-government to Singapore. The SCE was described as a spectacular exhibition on an eighty hectare ground and the most outstanding celebration of its kind ever to be staged in this part of the world. The Exposition represents a cross-section of races, cultures, goods, goods, costumes and ways of living into view the daily life in Singapore of racial harmony and tolerance.
William Goode Appointed as Singapore Governor

Sir William Goode was appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Singapore from 9 December 1957 to 3 June 1959.
