Staff Who Stole From M1

The High Court ordered Mr. Yeo Kay Keng, 35-year old, to pay S$2 million in damages to Telco M1 (his ex-employer). Mr Yeo, who sold M1 handsets and phone subscriptions to corporate clients, had allegedly been cooking up fake sales orders over three years. Yeo had also disclosed his spending spree. He bought a S$230,000 Porsche Sports Car and later upgrading to another S$430,000 model. He also bought a S$50,000 Patek Philippe watch and four Audemars Piguet watches that cost between S$15,000 and S$30,000 each. He had a large collection of fishes which included a S$200,000 stingray and a school of arowanas that worthed S$160,000.


Shing Hotel Owner Losses Licence

Siah Chen Long, 53-year-old, will not be allowed to run the Shing Hotel as the authority revoke his hotel licence. He had previously been given a police warning for a similar offence of allowing prostitutes to ply their trade on his hotel premises. However, he could rent it out or get someone else to take over the premises as a new licensee.


CEO Jailed For Cooking The Books

The 52-year-old Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JEL Corporation (Holdings) Limited, a public listed company, was sentenced to 12 months jail and fined S$280,000 for his creativity. Mr Eric Tan Boon Yong, who founded the firm, has pleaded guilty to conspired with two of his colleagues to falsify (cook) the company's accounts (books) and inflated its profits by more than S$4.2 million.

Bollywood Veggies Farm's Boss In Court

Mrs Ivy Singh-Lim, Boss of Bollywood Veggies, appeared in court on charges relating to her farm along Neo Tiew Road in Kranji. She was accused of failing to engage a professional engineer to conduct the inspection of her farm. The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) had sent numerous notices to her farm since April 2008. Her lawyer argued for the charges to be dropped, claiming the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) was singling Bollywood Veggies out for prosecution while other farms there were illegally operating and occupying their premises without the proper permits. Her farm was leased from the government's Singapore Land Authority (SLA) for 20 years.


President's Star Charity 2010

The President's Star Charity 2010 saw sure footed Le Parkour practitioner, celebrities, international artistes, dance enthusiasts and even Shaolin Fighter Monks wowing the audience for two-and-a-half hours at MediaCorp Television Station Studio. The charity show was capture live on High Definition and broadcasted live on Free-To-Air Channel 5 TV. The show is supposed to be a somber charity event but the telecasted show had so many unrelated commercial advertisement (from beauty products to luxury goods) in between segments.


Man Jailed For Incomplete Tax Returns

Goh Ah Bah, a 52-year-old businessman, was found guilty of failing to declare his rental income in his income tax returns for Year of Assessment 2005. Ah Bah was sentenced to a week in jail and ordered to pay a penalty of $74,000 after pleading guilty to one charge. According to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) said Ah Bah owns a number of properties including HDB shop-houses.


Thousands Caught Evading Bus Fares

Bus Inspectors, Bus Drivers, Interchange Staff, together, caught about seven thousand people evading bus fares in 2009. These errant commuters were issued a fine of S$20 for not paying or under-paying their bus fare and a S$50 fine for misusing concession cards.


Drug Pusher Caught

The Central Narcotics Bureau of Singapore seized 4.68kg of heroin in an stink operation. The loot has an estimated street value of nearly a Million Singapore Dollars. The Drug Pusher, a 56-year-old man, was caught making a transaction along Kitchener Road.


Mrs Lee Kuan Yew Cremated

The ceremonial gun carriage carried the late Mrs Lee Kuan Yew (nee Madam Kwa Geok Choo, age 90) from Sri Temasek (located within the Istana grounds) to Mandai Crematorium. At Mandai Crematorium a private funeral service was held. During the service, Mentor Minister Lee Kuan Yew delivered a touching eulogy.
