Malaysia Alleged Breach Of Airspace By RSAF Jets

It was reported that Johor residents had complained about excessive noise and pollution caused by low flying RSAF jets. The residents had channelled their complaints via the press to Johor's Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman. This lead to the Malaysian review the use of Johor airspace by RSAF jets which found that Singapore's jets were only guilty of moral insensitivity and not illegal encroachment.
Body Parts Murderer Hanged

John Martin Scripps, age 36, became the first Westerner to be hanged in Singapore for murder and only the second for any offence. Known as the Body Parts Murder, British national John Martin killed a South African Gerard George Lowe at River View Hotel. The body was dismembered and dumped at the Singapore River.
PUB Deputy Chief-Executive Go To Jail

Suspended PUB Deputy CEO, Choy Hon Tim (age 58), was thrown into the jail for 14 years for receiving over $13-million of bribes paid. Senior District Judge Richard Magnus passed the maximum sentence, following the prosecutor's recommendations. The prosecutor said choy, as a high-profile civil servant, had disgraced the administration which had entrusted him to serve the public. Choy had pleaded guilty yesterday to five counts of criminal conspiracy and corruption.
RSAF's First Women Helicopter Pilot

RSAF's first woman helicopter pilot, Lt Sim, gets her wings. The RSAF has four other women pilots who fly transport aircraft, but Lt Sim is the first to fly a helicopter. Her instructor, Captain Chris Chong, described her as a good and confident student who received no special treatment and trained as hard as her male colleagues.
American Teenager Jailed & Canned For Vandalism

American teenager Michael Fay was sentenced to four months’ jail and four strokes of caning after being found guilty of vandalism, theft and mischief. The caning punishment received high-publicised criticism from the West.

Yeo Seng Teck, 49, Chief Executive Officer of Trade Development Board was investigated in 1993 for cheating offences dating back to 1988. Investigation revealed that he had used forged document to cheat his principals (in this case, the organisations he was working for) involving the purchase of Chinese antiques worth about $2 million. He was convicted for cheating offences and sentenced to 4 years' imprisonment.
RSAF Plane Crashes At Paya Lebar Airport

Two pilots of a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) jet trainer ejected safely when their aircraft crashed at the Paya Lebar Airbase runway yesterday. The RSAF SIAI-Marchetti S.2ll jet aircraft was returning from a routine training flight when the accident occurred.
TAF scheme for school children Launched

The government launched the Trim and Fit (TAF) scheme for school children to help them loose weight by being more active and choosy about their food. School canteen vendors were asked to cooperate in preparing healthier food.
RSAF F-5E Jet Crash Into Johor

A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) fighter aircraft both engines caught fire crashed Kampung Sungai Tekong, south of Johor, during a routine training flight. The pilot of the F-5E aicraft ejected safely. Two people on the ground suffered minor abrasions and several vehicles in a construction site were damaged.
Super Puma Crash Near Safti

A Republic of Singapore Air Force Super Puma helicopter crashed into a reservoir near the Safti training area, killing both pilots on board. A third crewman was rescued and flown to Singapore General Hospital.
