Two Million Dollars For A Small Apartment In Bishan

Even with the SGD $2 Million price tag for a small 3-bedroom apartment, about 70% of the 180 units of the private housing development located in Bishan were snapped up over the weekend. And according to the developer, eight in ten buyers are Singaporeans. It is to be the most expensive suburban condominium ever to be sold in Singapore. The in Bishan Central home was sold for about S$1,750 per square foot (psf).


Defence Minister Visited RSAF Detachment In USA

Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen visited the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Peace Carvin V (PC Five) F-15SG Fighter Detachment at the Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) in Idaho yesterday in his introductory visit to the United States. The PC V detachment is home to about 180 RSAF personnel comprising pilots, weapons systems officers and ground crew. The RSAF F-15SG detachment was inaugurated in 2009.


New HDB Flats Over Subscribed

Singapore's First Olympic-Size Ice Skating Rink

The ice rink measures 60 by 30 metres is located at JCube Mall in Jurong East, previously known as Jurong Entertainment Center. One unique feature of the rink is that it offers Singapore's first rink side dining experience. The skating rink also comes with a 460-seat gallery and is managed by CapitaLand Retail Management. Singapore's plans to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics with the opening of the Olympic-size skating rink.


Boating Accident Claimed Two Lives

Two boats collided in waters off Penjuru Terminal at the mouth of Jurong River. After the collision, a pleasure craft carrying 10 men, sunk killing two men. These men were all on a weekend fishing trip to southern islands of Singapore.


Public Monitoring Of Flood Prone Area

Public Utilities Board (PUB) has implemented an island-wide Closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at 24 locations that is available for public viewing. These areas which are inclined to floods, or have recently experienced flash floods.


SIA A380 Flight Aborted

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A380 superjumbo flight SQ26 heading for Frankfurt had to turn back to Singapore due to a problem with one of its four engines. According to SIA, passengers' safety was not compromised by the shutdown of the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine as the A380 was capable of flying safely on three engines.


Bishan Park Re-opened

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officially re-opening of Bishan Park. At the same time, he announced that Admiralty Park, East Coast Park and Jurong Lake Park will be developed into large regional parks, offering recreational with new features not usually found in public parks. It will be called Destination Parks.


MRT North East Line Down

The busiest stretch of the North East Line (NEL) was crippled for 12 hours, the longest disruption of the MRT network here to date. As a result, five NEL stations were closed and 90,000 commuters were affected. This is the second major disruption for the 10-year-old NEL. The last time in 2006 the line was down for seven-hour.

A By-Election for Hougang Constituency will be called as the Member of Parliament (MP) seat was left vacant after the Workers' Party (WP) expelled Mr Yaw Shin Leong, following reports of Mr Yaw's personal indiscretions.
