General Palomeros Honoured

The French Air Force Chief of Staff, General Jean-Paul Palomeros, has been conferred Singapore's prestigious Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his efforts in forging ties between the French Air Force (FAF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). Since 2002, FAF has provided support for the RSAF's Advanced Jet Training (AJT) at Cazaux Air Base in France.


Singapore Airshow 2012

The Singapore Airshow 2012 is a 6-day event, taking place from 14 to 19 February 2012. The first 4 days of the Singapore Airshow are exclusively for trade attendees and the final 2 weekend days are open to general public at large. Show visitors are treated to an extra 30-minute aerobatic flying display taking place at this year’s Singapore Airshow over the public weekend on 18 and 19 February. This is in addition to the 60-minute aerial display. The highlight of the 2012 airshow was the visit and flyby of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. A old Singapore Airlines' Boeing 747 was a the centre stage of the show, it was there to mark its retirement after serving SIA for 40 years.


Orchard Road Snatch Theft Caught

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who is behind a series of snatch theft committed around Orchard Road for the last three months. The victims' mobile phones or handbags being snatched while they were walking or waiting for bus along Orchard Road. He was arrested at a public car park behind Wheelock Place in a police stakeout.


Thousands Joined Procession To Tank Road

The chariot carrying the statue of Lord Murugan, the principal deity of Thaipusam, made its way from the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon Road to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple at Tank Road. Nearly Eight Thousand of Devotees lined the route holding trays of offerings, smashing coconuts along its path. The chariot arrived in Tank Road at the break of day. Similar procession was head in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Man Caught Trying To Smuggle Another Man

A 21-year-old Malaysian man who tried to smuggle a 37-year-old Bangladeshi overstayer out of Singapore was caught at the Woodlands Checkpoint. His Malaysia-registered car, a black MPV, was seized. The Malaysian man said he was to be paid S$1,000 on completing the job.


PM Urged Citizens Not To Panic

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that the Singapore Government is watching closely for signs of an expected economic slowdown and will prepare the upcoming Budget accordingly. The impending down turn due to the European Debt Crisis may not be as severe as the 2008 Financial Crisis. He urged the citizen not to panic and to stay prudent. On that positive note, the Singapore Stock Market shot up more than 10% in the first month of trading since the beginning of the year, and into the new "Dragon Year" in the Lunar Calendar - Huat Ah!.


Polytechnic Students Can Fly

Temasek Polytechnic has tied up with the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC) to offer flying lessons to students. The scheme will allowed 30 of 150 students currently taking the Aviation Management & Services course an opportunity to to fly the Diamond Trainer and to obtain a PPL (Private Pilot License). Assessment criteria for will be stringent - first is pass the psychometric test (also known as compass test) held by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, then an interview with the selection board at SYFC and then must pass a full medical test at ST Aeromedical Centre.


Pasir Ris beach reopened

Pasir Ris beach reopened to the public after the quality of its water was upgraded from Fair to Good by the National Environment Agency.
