Gambling Den Raided

Police have raided an illegal gambling den at an industrial unit at Defu Lane.  Ten men and two women were arrested. A 40-year-old man was believed to be the den's manager while the remaining suspects were the patrons of the gambling den. Police also seized 15 modified computers, five modified jackpot machines and cash of about $650. Defu Lane is located in a small industrial estate at the fringe of Hougang Town.


12 Arrested In Sim Lim Square

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers and Entertainment Software Association (ESA) lawyers hit the retailers at Sim Lim Square, a popular shopping complex selling computer related products.  During the simultaneous raids, 12 men were arrested and seized goods that worth an estimated value of $12,000. They were also believed to have provided illegal modification services for game consoles which enabled pirated games to be played on them.


Ran Up 73 Storeys In Under 7 Minutes

Thomas Dold ran up 73 storeys of the Swissotel The Stamford Hotel in a time of 6 minutes 51 seconds. He was competing against over 2,000 people in this year's Swissotel Vertical Marathon.


Sentosa Cable Cars Halted

The Sentosa Cable Car System was halted by a lightning strike. About twenty passengers was trapped in the 15 minutes ordeal that send chills down their spine. This was the first time that such strike has brought down the system. A newly installed backup system was then started to bring the affected cable car cabins back to the Mount Faber, Harbourfront and Sentosa Stations.


Shing Hotel Owner Losses Licence

Siah Chen Long, 53-year-old, will not be allowed to run the Shing Hotel as the authority revoke his hotel licence. He had previously been given a police warning for a similar offence of allowing prostitutes to ply their trade on his hotel premises. However, he could rent it out or get someone else to take over the premises as a new licensee.


KTM Train Derailed At Bukit Timah

A Kuala Lumpur bound KTM train derailed near the KTM Bukit Timah Station. The station master at Tanjong Pagar said repairs on the damaged track have started. All KTM train services from Singapore have been cancelled.


Man-Made Floating Wetland Opened

The Sengkang Floating Wetland located within Sengkang Riverside Park was officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The Sengkang Floating Wetland in Punggol Reservoir is a floating structure half the size of a football field - the first of this scale to be built in Singapore. The wetland links Anchorvale Community Club to the Sengkang Riverside Park.


Flights To and From Jakarta Suspended

Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights to and from Jakarta are being temporarily suspended. This is due to volcanic ash from Mount Merapi eruption in Indonesia.


Merapi Volcanic Dust Cloud Effect Arrived

Southwesterly winds carried the Indonesian volcanic dust cloud from Mount Merapi has affected air traffic leaving Singapore. The eruption of Merapi has been producing a pyroclastic flow and ash.


A380 Airplane Parts Fell Off After Take-off

Minutes after Qantas A380 left Changi Airport, one of its four Rolls-Royce engine caught fire and exploded. Its engine casing rained down on Batam, a nearby Indonesian town, and the superjumbo Airbus A380 with 466 people on board dumped fuel before returning to Singapore. After the plane landed, a second engine, next to the one that exploded, would not shut down.
