New Newater Plant Opened

Singapore's fifth and largest NEWater plant was officially opened by Senior Minister, Mr. Goh Chok Tong. The facility at Changi East can produce up to 50 million gallons of water per day (mgd). It is the only large-scale water recycling plant in the world to be housed on top of a water reclamation plant.
Queenstown Library Turned 40

Queenstown Library, Singapore's oldest public library, celebrates 40 years with 2-month long special programmes. A series of special activities will be organised and they will include craft workshops for children, reading activities for youths, as well as health talks for adults and seniors. 40 years on, this library is still popular as it have about 3,000 visitors each day.
Marina Sands Casino Opens Door

Marina Bay Sands Casino set its focus is on high-end business travellers as well as the meetings and convention sectors. Unlike Resorts World Sentosa which targets leisure travellers mainily from Malaysia and Mainland China. Sands will opened the S$7.7 billion Marina Bay project in phases. In this phase one opening, only the hotel rooms, part of the shopping mall, 3 restaurants and most importantly the casino was opened. Marina Bay Sands has received its casino licence from the Singapore Government just in time for thisĀ opening.

The 1.3km-long two-way road spanning over Marina Bay, between Marina Boulevard and Raffles Avenue opened for traffic at 3pm. Comprising a vehicular bridge and the newly constructed Bayfront Avenue, it will also pass through the upcoming Marina Bay Sands (MBS) integrated resort. This vehicular bridge was officially named as "Bayfront Bridge".
Maid Died After Saving Girl

A 28-year old Indonesian maid, Ms Puji Astutik, died to saved her employer's one-year-old daughter. Ms Puji was crossing the road at the junction of Choa Chu Kang Street 52 and Choa Chu Kang North 6 with girl when a public bus ran into them. She instinctively flung the baby girl forward but was pinned under the wheels and died later from her injuries.
Marina Bay Pedestrian Bridge Opened

The world's first double helix curved pedestrian bridge will open to the public at 9.30pm. The Helix pedestrian bridge spans over the Marina Bay and connects Marina Centre to the Bayfront area. The bridge will also lead to the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort.
Youth Olympic Park Opened

The Youth Olympic Park, Singapore's first art park, was officially opened. It is located in the entrance of The Helix bridge. In the park, you can enjoy an enriching and interactive art experience, and explore 27 winning artworks by Singapore youths that are based on the theme, "Aspirations for life in Singapore".
Formula Drift Race At F1 Track

The Formula Drift race is held along the F1 Track near the F1 Pit Building. Previous years the event was held at the Changi Airshow Exhibition Grounds. This year, the race attracted 42 drivers from Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. This event also will also kick start the inaugural Asian Drift series with the other stops being Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. Formula Drift Race is organised by ESPN STAR Sports Event Management Group, the race will also be televised to over 300 million viewers across 24 countries.
Arrested For Selling Pirated Movies

Singapore Police napped 14 people, aged between 21 and 34 years old, for distribution of pirated movies at nine locations within Sim Lim Square. The police confiscated hard disks pre-loaded with pirate movies worth an estimated $160,000 on the streets. If found guilty of selling or distributing products that infringe copyright these 14 suspects could be fined up to $10,000 per article, with a maximum of $100,000 for all items, or they could be jailed for up to 5 years, or both.
Robbers Hit Jewellery Shop In Bedok

Three armed men got away with about a million dollars worth of jewellery at about 3pm in Bedok Central Block 210. The three masked men dressed in black hold up Yong Sheng Goldsmith for two minutes and grabbed bags full of jewellery. The men were on two motorbikes when they disappeared from the scene.
