BG Ravinder Singh Appointed As Army Chief

On 25 Mar 2011 BG (Brigadier-General, a one-star rank) Ravinder Singh s/o Harchand Singh succeeded MG (Major-General, a two-star rank) Chan Chun Sing as the new In a Change of Command Parade held on 25 March, BG Ravinder Singh s/o Harchand Singh succeeded MG Chan Chun Sing as the new Chief of Army (COA). The event, held at Pasir Laba Camp, was officiated by Chief of Defence Force, LG (Lieutenant-General, a three-star rank) Neo Kian Hong. According to BG Ravinder Singh, Singapore Army is not just about platforms, systems and vehicles. It is about people - all the 320,000 people in the Army, and the one only thing that can get them engaged, ready to fight and to defend the country is Leadership.


Marking 100 Years Aviation In Singapore

An exhibition on which marks 100 years of aviation in Singapore at Changi International Airport. The Singapore Aviation Centennial Exhibition traces the historical journey of aviation here. The exhibition provides a deeper understanding of how aviation has contributed significantly to Singapore's economy.


Pele In Tampines

Robert Mugabe In Singapore Again And Again

President of Zimbabwe, Mr. Robert Mugabe, arrived in Singapore from Harare for medical treatment. At celebrations marking Robert Mugabe's 87th birthday in February 2011, a frail man said even if his body "may get spent" his mind remained young and alert. He was last seen in Singapore just a month earlier.


HSBC Women's Champions 2011

The HSBC Women's Champions is a golf tournament for professional female golfers that is part of the LPGA Tour. HSBC Women's Champions was played for the first time in 2008 at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore. The Winner for the 2011 game was Karrie Webb of Australia. She took home USD210,000 of prize money.


Singapore Flyer Food Trail Opened

Singapore's first and only 1960s-themed food street was officially opened at Singapore Flyer. The 16,000 square feet dining haven at the Singapore Flyer boasts a strong mix of heritage hawkers who represent the original and most famous hawker foods in Singapore. The Singapore Food Trail at Singapore Flyer features 17 heritage hawkers and many of them have been in the business for 30 to over 50 years.


Dr Susan Lim In Court To Answer Charges

Dr. Susan Lim of Susan Lim Surgery, located in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, was accused of overcharging her patient (the late Pengiran Anak Hajah Damit) with a medical bill of $24million. Her patient, a woman member of Brunei's royal family, for treatment by other doctors where she allegedly inflated a third party specialist's bill by 520 times. The bill was presented to Brunei High Commission.


Battlestar Galactica Reopened

The world's tallest duelling roller-coaster the Battlestar Galactica re-opened after eleven months of being grounded. The Battlestar Galactica ride is the star attraction of Universal Studios Singapore. The fault of Battlestar Galactica was attributed to fatigue cracks detected in a welded component of the seat's support structure, the part which attaches the coaster's seat to its frame. All welded components for the seats have since been replaced with a new part.


Joo Chiat Heritage Town

The National Heritage Board (NHB) has named Joo Chiat as Singapore's first Heritage Town. According to Singapore's Information, Communication and the Arts Minister Lui Tuck Yew it is to develop heritage content to encourage and promote more active participation and co-ownership of our shared heritage. Joo Chiat was awarded our Heritage Town for 2011 because of the quantity and the diversity of heritage activities that they're proposing as well as the extent of community involvement from grassroots organisations to associations such as the Peranakan Association and the Eurasian Association.


MBS ArtScience Museum Opened

An iconic the lotus-flower-inspired structure, ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort, opened. The structure designed by architect Moshe Safdie, made up of "10 fingers", is also touted as the "Welcoming Hand of Singapore" which opens up to the skies. Because of the geometry, every room is unique, every room has a slightly different shape. The building makes use of natural light that flows into the galleries. Rainwater is channelled from the roof and down through the centre of the four-storey structure.
