Cargo Plane Skidded At Changi

A Singapore Airlines cargo plane skidded off the Changi Airport runway. The big aircraft veered off the runway after landing around 4.40pm on Friday afternoon, 02 Dec. 2011. There was no injuries or damage were reported and the plane was able to taxi on its parking bay. The runway was subsequently closed for inspection and re-opened at about 6pm on the same day. Several planes were diverted to nearby airports - Paya Lebar Air Base (Military) and Senai Airport.


Walk To Punggol Point

The 4.9 kilometre-long waterfront promenade connect Punggol Point to Punggol Housing Estate. The footpaths and cycling tracks linked up with park connectors along the Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs, form a continuous 17 -kilometre loop around north-eastern Singapore.


Dragon Sold For 130 Million

Dragon Mansion, located at 14 Spottiswoode Park, was sold by 86 home owners in a collective sale at a bargain price to a property developer - Spottiswoode Development. The sale represent about 1.9 million for each of the owner as the final price was 16% below the initial asking price of S$156 million. If is a 99-years leasehold site, one would understand the rational. But this is a freehold site - so it is another case of the owner killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.


Ground Broke At SUTD

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Singapore's fourth publicly-funded university, has just started construction work at their permanent campus at Changi. Phase 1, which comprises academic and residential blocks, will be completed by 2015.


Vegetarian Food Stall Owner To Sue Sands

A 58-year old Vegetarian Food Stall Owner, Madam Choo Hong Eng, felt short-changed by Sands Casino. According to her, she had struck jackpot win of S$416,000. Instead of paying her the full amount, the Casino told her there was a hitch in the system and her price money was only S$50,000 plus a sports car. So it will be case of Madam Choo (The Jackpot-er) vs. Mister Adelson (The Casino Owner). Update: The casino agreed to pay her the full amount - with CCTV footage and eye-witnesses to back her claim. Also she gave her statement at the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA). As Madam Choo was enjoying herself in Taiwan at the time when the casino made the decision, was informed by her lawyer. Madam Choo has plague to donate $200,000 to charity. Hum... which charity???


Pasir Ris Sports And Recreation Centre Opened

The 40 Million Dollar sports and recreation centre in Pasir Ris was opened by Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. The Pasir Ris Sports And Recreation Centre, which is the 21st of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), has been open to the public since 18 July 2011. Its swimming complex has more than 20,000 visitors a month, while its fitness gymnasium has an average of 11,000 users a month. The centre also comes with Braille and tactile markings for the blind and a ramp for wheelchair users to have easier access to the swimming pools.


Ex-SLA Staff Jailed

The High Court has sentenced two former Singapore Land Authority (SLA) employees for dipping their hands into SLA Coffer. They "made-off" with over S$12 Millions. Koh Seah Wee, aged 41, an SLA deputy director was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for money laundering and cheating his ex-employer. Koh's subordinate cum accomplice, Christopher Lim Chai Meng, aged 38, was sentenced to 15 years in jail.


End Of The Road For Digital Radio In Singapore

MediaCorp discontinue its Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) service, which was widely seen as the "replacement technology" for FM radio in 1999. Sadly, DAB did not gain much traction since its introduction. Technology like Internet online streaming is widely adopted.


40th Anniversary of Five Power Defence Arrangements

Singapore hosted the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA)'s 40th anniversary celebrations, with the defence ministers, aircraft and servicemen from all five countries converging on the Changi Air Base to participate in the event. Amongst the participating aircraft spotted roosting at the dispersal area of the air base were Republic of Singapore Air Force's F-15SG Strike Eagle, Royal Air Force's Typhoon FGR4, Royal Australian Air Force's F/A-18A Hornets, Royal Malaysian Air Force's F/A-18D Hornets and Royal New Zealand Air Force's P-3K2 Orions.


SLA Got New Tenants For Old Turf Club

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) after booting out Turf City Management from the old Singapore Turf Club land at Bukit Timah, has awarded the six plots of land to the following bidders: SH Cogent Logistics Pte Ltd, The Blue House Nursery Pte Ltd, Centaurs Group Pte Ltd, Tanglin Rugby Club and WWTBF Pte Ltd. They will be paying SLA nearly SDG $1.3 Million per month in rental from March 2012.
