First Town With Cycling Path

Tampines is first town with new dedicated off-road cycling path. The Tampines Town is the first of seven to have this under the National Cycling Plan. The entire stretch of cycling path spanning 9.2 kilometres is expected to be fully completed by 2012. Currently, only one-fifth of the cycling path has been completed. To differentiate the cycling path from the footpath, the tarmac is coloured darker than normal. The cycling paths are built adjacent to the footpath.


Exercise Pitch Black

About 180 personnel and various aircraft, eight F-16 C/D fighter jets, an E-2C Airborne Early Warning aircraft and a KC-135R tanker aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) are participating in Exercise Pitch Black, a multilateral air combat exercise. According to Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this is the 20th year (since 1990) of Exercise Pitch Black which started between Singapore and Australia and later included other air forces in the region. It gave RSAF the opportunity to conduct air operations under realistic training conditions and enhance inter-operability with other participating air forces. The excercise was held in Darwin (Australia) between 16 July 2010 to 6 August 2010.


38 Australian Horses Arrived

38 horses, aged between five and 11 years old, for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Equestrian competition arrived in Singapore after travelling eight hours from Queensland, Australia by Air. This is the largest movement of horses in Singapore, the horses, after their arrival, were loaded onto trucks bound for the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre (STCRC) - the equestrian competition venue. The horses will be under quarantine for two weeks from July 16 to 30. Some of the horses will remain in Singapore after the competition as part of the YOG legacy.


PM Visited RSAF Detachment At Mountain View

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited the Peace Carvin V detachment facility located at Mountain View (US) Air Force Base, Idaho, USA. Peace Carvin V is a partnership between Singapore and the US that spans 25 years. Singapore bought 24 new F-15SG jets under the tie-up arrangement. It is at this base that RSAF pilots are trained to fly and operate the advanced fighter aircraft, which makes up part of the SAF's 3rd-Generation defence capabilities. The F-15SG squadron is part of the air force's Air Combat Command which plans, controls and executes air warfare operations. The RSAF F-15SG detachment was inaugurated in 2009.


CPF Minimum Sum Increased To $123K

The prevailing CPF Minimum Sum (MS) will be revised to $123,000, up 5% from $117,000. Members who can set aside the full MS will receive about $1,100 per month when they reach their draw down age. The new MS will apply to CPF members who turn 55 from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011.


Swiss Jailed & Caned For Vandalism

Swiss National, Mr. Oliver Fricker, was sentenced to 5 months jail and 3 strokes of caning by District for entering a protected place and spraying paint on two carriages of an SMRT train. He pleaded guilty to cutting through the fence of an SMRT Changi train depot with an accomplice and spray painting two MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) train carriages with the words "McKoy Banos", a widely documented signature of graffiti artists who have vandalised trains around the world.


Jonathan Leong Circus Act

Jonathan Leong, a 27-year-old runner-up in the second season of Singapore Idol, will be singing (plus dancing and performing acrobatics on a trampoline) in Resorts World Sentosa's new resident show Voyage De La Vie. Voyage De La Viewill premiered at the Festive Grand, a specially constructed theatre, in Resorts World Sentosa. Jonathan was picked from more than 30 hopefuls who auditioned for the role.


Great Singapore Flood

Heavy and intense rain triggered flash floods and left a trail of damage and disruption along Orchard Road, Singapore's most popular shopping belt. The downpour started in the early morning swiftly wreaking havoc over two hours. Luxury boutiques, coffee outlets and the 3-day old Wendy's fast-food outlet located in Liat Tower were destroyed.


City Harvest Church Founder Probed

18 individuals linked to the City Harvest Church (CHC), including church founder Pastor Kong Hee and his wife, Sun Ho are called up by the Office of the Commissioner of Charities (COC) and the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) of the Singapore Police. They are to assist in investigations, after receiving complaints alleging the misuse of church funds.


Night Marathon With 20,000 Runners

The adidas Sundown 84-km Ultramarathon 2010 begins at 6pm at the Changi Exhibition Centre. This is a record high number of Runners since the event started in 2008.
