Old Railway Lines Barricaded

Singapore Government has barricaded the old Malaysian Railway lines as works to remove the tracks has started. "Keep Away" signboards have been put up and concrete blocks have also been placed on site to prevent vehicles from entering. Singapore has to hand over the dismantled parts of the tracks to Malaysia.
Railway Line Closed

The railway line between Woodlands and Tanjong Pagar including the Malaysian Railway Station is closed for good. The main building of the railway station was gazetted as a national monument. The cessation of all railway operations between Tanjong Pagar station and the Woodlands checkpoint was done without any public consultation and announced only after the decision had already been taken.
CPF Minimum Sum Increased To $131K

CPF increased the prevailing Minimum Sum was revised to $131,000, up 6.5% from $123,000. Members who can set aside the MS fully in cash can apply to commence their monthly payouts of $1,170 when they reach their draw down age at 62. The new MS will apply to CPF members who turn 55 from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. According to government statistics, only 45% of workers were able to meet the requirement upon reaching 55 years old.
MRT North East Line Woodleigh Station Opened

At the time the MRT North East line (NEL) was opened in 2003, all of the stations were operating except Buangkok and Woodleigh. The Woodleigh Station NE11 was finally opened in anticipation of a American International School which is under construction in the vicinity of the station
Terracotta Warriors Arrived

Ten terracotta statues from Xian (China) have arrived in Singapore for their first exhibition in Southeast Asia, at the Asian Civilisation Museum. The terracotta warriors, which are more than 2,000 years old, were originally constructed to protect the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Along with about 100 artefacts from China's Qin and Han dynasties, they will be on display from 24 June 2011 to 16 October 2011.
ROM and ROMM Restarted

The newly-renovated Registry of Marriages (ROM) and Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM) resumed operations and 23 couples solemnised their marriages on the first day ofreopening. The new ROM building was renovated at a cost of about S$4.2 million.
En Bloc Craze Rebooted

Laguna Park, a previously public housing turn private located along the "prime" Marine Parade Road, is up for en bloc sale at an expected price of S$1.33 billion. This is the second time the 33-year-old development which has a land area of 63,000 square metres has been put up for sale. The last time Laguna Park made an attempt was in September 2009. It however raised an environmental concerns of Singapore over the needless destruction of good architecture and our limited resources (construction materials like sand, concrete and steel) with perhaps decades of useful longevity ahead.. The property is still in a fairly good condition, so the Singapore Government should consider introducing a 50-year age limit before any development could be considered for collective sale (En Bloc).
Railway Station Now A National Monument

The main building of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was gazetted as a national monument. Located along Keppel Road, the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was opened in 1932. The location was chosen to best realised the British Empire's vision of creating an extensive transport network across land and sea in this part of the region.
Standard Chartered Bank Buys Money Lender

Standard Chartered had acquired legal money lender, GE Money. GE Money (GE Money Pte Ltd) was a wholly owned unit of General Electric Company, is a provider of car and personal loans in Singapore. The firm makes money by charging their customer interest for the money they loan them. The purchase will cost Standard Chartered nearly a billion Singapore Dollars. General Electric Company had established this legal money lending enterprise in Singapore nine years ago.
Counterfeit Windows Ring Busted

A major counterfeit ring in Singapore (with connections in Malaysia and Australia) was busted by Singapore Police Force with the Microsoft Counterfeit Investigation unit. Thousands of software and tablet PCs with illegally copied Microsoft Windows 7 installed were seized. The raid began at a storage warehouse in Changi and continued at other locations in Pasir Ris, Chinatown and Bukit Batok. According to Microsoft Singapore, the items seized were previously sold to consumers with counterfeit Certificate of Authenticity labels placed on the tablet PCs and software packaging to deceive consumers.
