Racial quotas reached in some neighbourhoods

Parliamentary Secretary for National Development Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman announced at 14 per cent of 162 Housing Development Board (HDB) neighbourhoods reached ethnic quota. The Ethnic Integration Policy (EIP), which began in 1989, stipulates ethnic quotas in HDB estates to prevent the creation of ethnic enclaves. Dr Maliki was responding to public concern that for flat owners who said they had sold their property below market valuation because the buyer had to be from a particular ethnic group. The problem was especially acute for flat owners from minority ethnicities and feel that they are disadvantaged as a result of their ethnic minority status.
Free Shuttle Services To Locals Halted

The two integrated resorts (IRs) violated casino restrictions and safeguards by providing free shuttle services to locals. As such, the government has halted such bus shuttles offered by the integrated resorts as they are in violation of casino regulations. Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) also ran afoul of rules by promoting casino rewards programmes in heartland shopping centres. The Casino Regulatory Authority's (CRA) was swift in stamping out the errant actions 'conveys a clear signal to both IR operators to confine promotional efforts for the casinos to tourists only'.
First Snake Boat Race

Singapore's first snake boat race took place at Jurong Lake Park. More than 1,200 members of the Malayalee community and 180 rowers gathered to celebrate Onam, the biggest festival in the Indian state of Kerala. Snake Boat Race is a popular Vallam Kali (boat play/game) held in the Punnamada Lake near Alappuzha, Kerala, India. Vallam Kali or Vallamkali literally means boat play/game, but can be translated to boat race in English. And Chundan Vallams literally means Snake Boats which are long canoes made of wood. Hence the race is also known as Snake Boat Race in English.

Buyer can look forward to sweeter and juicier range of vegetables from customers can look forward to a sweeter and juicier range of vegetables from the fertile volcanic soil and cool climate of Medan, Indonesia. The vegetables come from farms in Brastagi in the Karo highlands, some 70 kilometres from Medan, and was exclusively supply and pack vegetables by Horti Jaya.
Holy Mass In Honor of the Centenary of Mother Teresa

A Holy Mass and Inauguration of the centenary year in honor of the Centenary of Mother Teresa’s Birth was held at Church of the Holy Spirit. The mass was presided by his Excellency Archbishop Nicholas Chia. Earlier in the week another holy mass was held at Gift of Love Home in Marymount Centre.
YOG Torch Arrived

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) torch completed its 13-day "round-the-world" journey to celebration cities representing five continents around the world. The Flame arrived in Singapore and will continues its traditional six-day torch relay around the island.
Hotel 81 Prostitution Link

41-year-old Chu Poh Yong, licensee of Hotel 81, was charged with five counts of allowing his rooms to be used for prostitution activities. It was believed that he have committed the offences at two of its branches, Hotel 81 Cosy at Jiak Chuan Road in the Chinatown area and Hotel 81 Mayo at Jalan Besar, between 27 April and 19 June 2010.
No Subsidised Petrol For Singapore Cars In Malaysia

Singapore registered cars are not allowed to purchase subsidised RON 95 (95 Octane) petrol while in Malaysia. According to Malaysia Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail said that petrol station licences would be revoked if they are caught selling RON 95 to Singapore registered vehicles. RON 95 now costs RM1.85 (S$0.79) a litre, while RON 97, whose price is regulated by a float system, costs around RM2.10 (S$0.90), which still cheaper than the S$1.75 in Singapore
Deer Escape From Night Safari

Early Morning, six deer escaped from the Night Safari (zoo) that is located in Mandai. By the evening, five have been found but one is still missing. A tree had fallen on the fence, allowing the deer to walk out of the park's boundaries.
Victoria Concert Hall Closed

The 105-year-old Victoria Concert Hall had its final Gala Closing Concert. The venue will shut its doors for three years for major refurbishments. Completed in 1905 to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria, the Victoria Memorial Hall was renamed the Victoria Concert Hall in 1980 when it became the home of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO).
