Mass Community Walk

In a display of community bonding, about 85,000 participants took part in the 2 kilometres One Community Walk event that was held at various locations islandwide. The biggest turnout was in Khatib, where about 7000 residents showed up for the walk. The walk was organised by the People's Association (PA) to commemorate the 50th anniversary and in support the coming Youth Olympic Games.
Flood Preventive Measures Revealed

The Public Utilities Board (PUB), Singapore's National water agency, revealed that they are expediting drainage improvement systems and implementing an early warning system for residents in the Joo Chiat area affected by the recent floods. An outlet drain between Tembeling Road and Ceylon Road will also be widened and deepened. Along Siglap Canal. works are also underway to deepen and widen a major water artery in the area that is linked to the sea.
Flooding Cannot Be Prevented

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has said no amount of engineering can prevent flooding in Singapore. He said after touring the waterfront development at the areas around Kallang River.
Fined For Importing Fake Goods

A 43-year-old woman, Miss Mok Soo Khing, was caught with items bearing the Louis Vuitton trademark at the Woodlands Checkpoint in October 2009. Mok bought counterfeit branded goods from a number of shops in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, in order to sell them in Singapore for a profit. Woman fined S$48,300 for importing fake designer goods.
Sentosa Cable Car Rides Reopened

The cable cars that plies betwen Mount Faber and Sentosa Island reopened for business after a year long overhaul that cost S$36 million. The operator hopes to attract 2 million riders a year. The cars are now wheelchair-friendly and can fit eight riders into a cabin.
Smelly Sewer Leak Into ION Orchard

The ION Orchard, Singapore's first multi-sensory experiential shopping and lifestyle mall, was filled with a strong smell coming from its basement floor at around 5pm. That prompted horders of shopper to ran for cover. It was so strong that the management had to "seal off" the area consists of a row of nine jewellery shops, called Jewellery Street. It then took a platoon of cleaners a couple of hours to isolate and neutralise the strong odour.
Man Killed By A Tree

A 32-year old man was killed when a tree fell and crushed the car he was driving at the junction of Thomson Hills Drive and Yio Chu Kang Road. The tree was probably uprooted by a combination of a strong winds and heavy rains. According to onlooker, the car was also badly crushed and rescuers took about half and hour to remove the victim's body with hydraulic spreader-cutters. It took another 3-hours to cut the tree up and have it removed.
Marina Bay waterfront promenade Opened

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officially opened the Marina Bay waterfront promenade and Marina Bay City Gallery. The official opening of the 3.5 km waterfront promenade enables all Singaporeans and visitors to enjoy the entire necklace of attractions around the bay. It also represents the unveiling of an exciting new signature skyline for Singapore. The 3.5km waterfront promenade provides a continuous route linking the Marina Centre, Collyer Quay and Bayfront areas. The landscaped waterfront promenade forms a key pedestrian link between the developments at Collyer Quay and Marina Bay Sands. It also acts as an ideal vantage point for events in and around Marina Bay.
Singapore Flyer Struck By Lightning

The Singapore Flyer was closed after it was struck by a powerful lightning. The operator evacuated the some 200 passengers and stopped the wheel for safety reason. According to them has a good lightning protection system and the structure was not compromised.
Flash Flood Hit Central Part Of Singapore

The rain came with the same ferocity as the "Great Singapore Flood". In some residential areas like Carlisle Road, the water was knee-high, subsiding only after 30 minutes. Over at Goodman Road, near Tanjong Katong, some residents straggle to get their cars to drier ground. Other homes had their power supply knocked out by the flood water. Some Condo like Cluny Court, Gentle Reflections and Tessarina basement carparks were badly flooded and cars destroyed.
