Safer Road Outside Church Of The Holy Spirit

This Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) have installed railings at the centre divider to stop jaywalkers on the stretch of Upper Thomson Road where two elderly pedestrians were killed recently. The walkway near the Church of the Holy Spirit was broadened so pedestrians will not have to step onto the road when they are blocked by cars that are parked "illegally" on the walkway. The walkway, which runs along a row of terrace houses across from Thomson Plaza, will also be modified to make it harder for cars to park illegally on it. This addition will make this area safer for pedestrians.


More New HDB BTO At Punggol

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has launched two new BTO projects in Punggol. They are Punggol Emerald and Punggol Waves which offered a total of 1,429 HDB flats. It comprises of of studio apartments, three-room apartments, four-room apartments and five-room apartments. 95% of the supply of will be set aside by HDB for first-timer home owners.


People's Park On Fire

A fire broke out at fifth floor of People's Park Complex along Eu Tong Sen Street at about 4pm. The fire started and was contained to a storeroom of the building where black smoke was billowing out of a ventilator. There were no casualties.


Hotel's Boss Charged For Facilitating Vice

Under regulation 24 of the Hotels Licensing Regulations, no licensee of a hotel should allow any person whom he knows or has reason to believe is a prostitute to occupy a room in the hotel or to frequent the premises. With that note, the police have brought charges against the hotel licensee, Siah Chen Long, of Shing Hotel with is located along Kitchener Road. This is sending a strong signal to errant hotel operators to clean up their act


Man Fined For Bringing In Toy Guns

Zainuddin Abdul Kader, 28-year old male, who imported four toy guns into Singapore without a permit was fined $15,000. Zainuddin was in Hongkong for a holiday in March 2009 where he paid HK$7,000 (S$1,200) for four toy guns from shop selling replica toy guns. The shop owner placed some of the dismantled parts of the toy guns into the model airplane kit boxes and Zainuddin declared the items as 'model kits'' and to air-mail them back to Singapore. He was caught when Singapore Post discovered it was a toy gun and reported to the police.


Contraband Cigarettes Seized At Woodlands Checkpoint

Officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Singapore Customs seized nearly Ten Thousands cartons of contraband cigarettes worth nearly One Singapore Dollars at Woodlands Checkpoint. The loot was hidden in a Malaysia-registered lorry which was carrying 789 pieces of plywood from Malaysia into Singapore. A 31-year-old Malaysian Lorry Driver was arrested. If convicted of dealing with contraband cigarettes, first-time offenders could be jailed a maximum of three years and fined up to twenty times the amount of duty evaded.


SIA Resumed 2 Flights To Europe

Singapore Airlines (SIA) resumed two Europe bound flights five days after they shutdown flights to Europe due to a huge Icelandic volcano ash cloud over Europe's air space.  418 passengers board 2 flights from Singapore Changi International Airport - SQ366 heading to Rome (Italy) and SQ378 heading to Barcelona (Spain). Singapore Airlines gave priority to passengers who had been stranded here in Singapore for a longer time.


JetQuay Wooing High Rollers

JetQuay, a luxury terminal operator at Changi Airport, is stepping up its efforts to woo high-rollers visiting the both the Sentosa and Marina Bay integrated resorts. JetQuay have also teamed up with two more international airlines, Air France and Garuda Indonesia, to serve their First and Business Class passengers.


First National Karting Championship

Some 70 Go-Karters raced in Singapore's first National Karting Championship with a S$50,000 sponsorship from Nescafe Singapore. Races will be held at Kartright Speedway's new 750-metre track in Jurong. The track in Jurong is the former Arena Country Club's golf driving range. It took some five months to transform this old golf driving range into a go-karting track. Go-Karters can even kart in the night as there are powerful floodlights fitted all around the track.


Eleven More MRT Stations Opened

11 more stations, Tai Seng to Dhoby Ghaut, of the 29-station MRT Circle Line open. This makes a total of 16 station is full operation for the new Circle Line. The Circle Line designed to ease crowding on existing lines. The Circle Line original budget of $6.7 billion was exceeded after a tunnel near Nicoll Highway collapsed in 2004, killing four workers. The cost of the entire Circle Line project cost about $10 Billion Singapore Dollars.
