Expensive Ferrari F430 Trashed

A chilli red Ferrari costed S$720,000 crash along Nicoll Highway early morning. The very lucky 36-year-old driver, Mr. Chris Lim Chai Meng walks away almost unharmed. An SCDF spokesman said Lim had only minor cuts on his arms and forehead. The badly mangled Ferrari F430, (had a highly auspicious registration number SJV 82D) had mounted the kerb, hit a guardrail, flipped a couple of times and then a tree. According to insurance record, the SGD $720,000 car was scrapped and sold for $10,800.


Rain Causes Floods in Bukit Timah

Intense heavy rain caused flooding in various part of Singapore. In Bukit Timah, at its peak, the flood waters reached knee level. Stretches from Coronation Road to Third Avenue and from Wilby Road to Blackmore Road. The junction of Sixth Avenue and Bukit Timah Road was also flooded. The rainfall was about six times that of a normal storm resulted in massive amounts of water - equivalent to the amount in 115 Olympic-sized pools - to drain into Bukit Timah Canal, causing it to overflow.


RSAF F-15SG Detachment Inaugurated

The Republic of Singapore air force (RSAF) held a Peace Carvin V (PC Five) inauguration ceremony at Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB). Peace Carvin V is a partnership between the Republic of Singapore and the United States government for the next 25 years.


Laguna Park En Bloc Called Off

The en bloc sale of Laguna Park has been called off as the sales committee found it was not able to get consent level from owners at a lower proposed price of $967 million down from the original $1.2 billion.


RSAF Serviceman Killed In Accident

A 21-year-old Republic of Singapore Air Forces (RSAF) regular serviceman died in a road accident along a highway in North Florida, United States. Lieutenant (LTA) Chee Zhi Hao and two other RSAF pilot trainees were returning from a visit to the Pensacola Naval Air Station and was driving along US Highway 331 near Freeport. The Toyota Corolla was travelling on inner lane veered onto a grassy shoulder and moved for some distance before Lim slammed on the brakes. It travelled for another 14m before hitting the back of a parked Chevrolet truck.


Singapore University of Technology and Design

Singapore's fourth public-funded university, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2011, has been named the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). The new university will admit its first intake of up to 500 students in 2011 and students will have four degree programmes to choose from Architecture & Sustainable Design, Engineering Product Design, Engineering Systems & System Design, and Information Engineering & Design.  First-year students will be exposed to foundation studies in the areas of mathematics, science, introductory humanities and social sciences – all in the context of design. They will also get to learn about entrepreneurship and management during each of the four-year degree programme. The university (medium-sized) will eventually cater to some 4,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduates.


Singapore Grand Prix 2009

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton won Singapore Grand Prix (SGP) Formula One at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore. It was a rather uneventful race with a minor accident that caused Nick Heidfeld to dropped off from the race.


USA to support Singapore F-16 pilot training program

US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) had made a Military Sale to the Government of Singapore the continuation of the Continental United States (CONUS) pilot proficiency training program for munitions, services and support for Singapore F-16C/D aircraft stationed in Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. This program will enable Singapore to develop mission-ready and experienced pilots through this training program to support Singapore’s current and future F-16 aircraft inventory. The estimated that it will cost Singapore about USD $250 million and there is no prime contractor involved in this program.


Largest CNG Station In The World

Singapore's CNG pumping station, C-nergy, at Toh Tuck Road, made it into Guinness World of Records as the world's largest CNG pumping station. The trophy was awarded to the chairman of Union Gas Company and Trans Cab, Mr Teo Kiang Ang. C-nergy is equipped with 46 CNG pumps, it overtook the previous record of 38 CNG pumps of a pump station in Thailand.


Laguna Park Goes En Bloc

Laguna Park was put up for collective sale yesterday with a price tag of $1.2billion. The large 30-year-old condominium has been in the headlines over a spate of vandalism attacks on residents who were not keen on the sale. Despite its troubles, the estate attained the crucial 80per cent consent level from its owners last December 2008. But the tender exercise was put on hold until now for the right time as recently major developers have returned to the land market with confidence.
