Fight Breakout Outside PKMS HQ

The fight happened when a faction went to the PKMS's headquarter at Changi Road to physically take over premises. They claimed to be part of the new Supreme council voted in, at an extraordinary general meeting held in November 2008. But the old guards never acknowledged them and refused to step down. Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Melayu Singapura (PKMS), Singapore Malay National Organisation, is a politcal organisation which looks after the interests of the Malays in Singapore.
CPF LIFE Introduced

CPF LIFE, "Public" Annuity Scheme, was introduced. CPF LIFE is to provide CPF members with a "lifelong" income. Through this scheme, members will receive a monthly income for as long as they alive, the amount depending on the cash savings they have in their Retirement Account (RA). It is compulsory for those born after 1957. For those born on or before 1956 have an option to opt-in to CPF LIFE. CPF LIFE will replace the Minimum Sum Scheme (MSS) in 1987.
CPF Minimum Sum Increased To $117K

The CPF minimum sum was increased from $106,000 up 10% to $117,000. According to government statistics, only 49% of workers were able to meet the requirement upon reaching 55 years old.
Singapore Navy Launches RSS Archer Submarine

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean officiated at the launch ceremony of the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) first Archer-class submarine, RSS Archer, at the Kockums Shipyard in Karlskrona, Sweden. RSS Archer is one of two ex-Vaastergotland-class submarines acquired by Singapore in 2005. The submarines will be based at Changi Naval Base (CNB).
Singapore awarded contract for port surveillance system

Kongsberg Norcontrol IT, a Norwagian company, has been awarded a contract with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for the future maritime surveillance system that will cover the Singapore Strait and the approaches to Singapore Port.
ST Engineering wins Singapore Army contract

ST Engineering announced that its electronics arm, ST Electronics, has been awarded a contract to provide the Advanced Combat Man System (ACMS) to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The project which is worth over S$100m will commence immediately and is expected to be completed by 2012. The ACMS is a 3rd Generation Networked Warrior system fully equipped with advanced C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence) and network capabilities. The ACMS is a joint development effort that started in 1998 among the Defence Science and Technology Agency, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and ST Electronics with the support of Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd (ST Kinetics) in the area of weapon sub-system. It features innovations from ST Electronics and ST Kinetics. For this contract, ST Kinetics is a subcontractor to ST Electronics.
Singapore Institute of Technology Formed

Dr Ng Eng Hen, the Minister for Education, annouced the establishment of the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). Singapore Navy Tests Boeing Unmanned System

Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has successfully conducted a ship-based trial of the Boeing ScanEagle, a long-endurance, fully autonomous unmanned aircraft system (UAS), launching and recovering the unmanned air vehicle from a landing ship tank vessel and a frigate. ScanEagle was launched and recovered from the ships' helicopter decks, flying day missions using an electro-optical camera payload and night missions using an infrared camera payload. During the flights, the Boeing ScanEagle successfully demonstrated sea-based launch and recovery capabilities and the ease with which the physical ground support equipment and control hardware can be integrated on board.

The HSBC Women's Champions 2009 golf tournament was held at Tanah Merah Country Club. The HSBC Women's Champions is a golf tournament for professional female golfers that is part of the LPGA Tour. The Winner for the 2009 game was Jiyai Shin of South Korea. She took home USD300,000.
RSAF Received New Airborne Early Warning Aircraft

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) received its first of the four Gulfstream 550 Airborne Early Warning (G550-AEW) aircraft at Tengah Air Base this evening. Chief of Air Force, Major-General Ng Chee Khern, officiated at the homecoming ceremony. The RSAF has acquired a total of four G550-AEW aircraft to replace its ageing E-2C Hawkeye aircraft which have served the Air Force well for more than 20 years. Equipped with a sophisticated mission suite that includes an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, the G550-AEW aircraft is able to detect, identify and track aerial targets. The G550-AEW aircraft has a longer detection range (200 nautical miles) than the E-2C Hawkeye.
