Airbus A380 superjumbo Went into Service

The world's biggest passenger plane, the Airbus A380 super-jumbo, completed its first commercial flight today. With 471 passengers on board the giant Singapore Airlines aircraft touched down safely at Sydney International airport, having flown to Australia from Singapore Changi Airport. Singapore Airlines with flight number SQ380 between Singapore and Sydney. The Airbus A380 with serial number MSN003 (registered as 9V-SKA) was delivered to Singapore Airlines on 15 October 2007
Boeing Singapore Aviation Training Centre Opened

Boeing opened its new $100 million aviation training centre in Singapore for air crew and mechanics. The 7,000 sq m facility in Changi North Rise will be run by aircraft manufacturer Boeing's training subsidiary, Alteon Training. When fully operational, it will house six full flight simulators and train up to 6,000 pilots, flight attendants and mechanics. It have two new Boeing 787 simulators.
CDL Won South Beach Project

A consortium led by property developer City Developments Ltd (CDL) has won a US Dollars 1.12 billion bid for development of two luxury hotels, office, retail and residential space on a prime location in the city-state known as the South Beach Project a 99-year leasehold development. South Beach Project has a gross floor area of 146,827 square metres (1,580,433 square feet), will be completed by 2016. The development will feature two new towers, 45 storeys and 42 storeys tall, which house two luxury hotels, offices and apartments. The original conserved military buildings of the old Beach Road Camp will be restored for retail and hotel-related uses such as function rooms. The project will add at least 46,450 square metres (500,000 square feet) of new office space and about 700 to 800 hotel rooms.
7% GST In Singapore

The Singapore GST (Goods & Services Tax) rate increased by two percentage points to 7%. A GST Offset Package to be given to Household would cost the Government $4 billion in total over five years.
Durai Guilty

RSAF UAV Command Inaugurated

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean officiated at a parade to inaugurate the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command (RSAF UAV Command), at Murai Camp.
Lee Hsien-loong 25% pay raise

Singapore increased the pay of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong by 25 percent as the government revises the salaries of its officials. Lee will be paid S$3.1 million annually. Lee will also receive a bonus tied to the performance of the economy. Top civil servants could receive an additional bonus equivalent to seven months' pay based on their performance. The starting salary for new ministers, which includes bonuses, will rise to S$1.6 million from S$1.2 million a year. The monthly allowance for members of parliament will increase to S$13,200 from S$11,900. The salaries put the country's ministers among the world's highest-paid government officials.
Honorary Citizen Award on Mr Raymond and Dr Pierer

Singapore honered Mr Lee R. Raymond (Retired Chairman of Exxon Mobil Corporation, USA) and Dr Heinrich von Pierer (Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG, Germany) with the 2006 Honorary Citizen Award for their valuable contributions to Singapore. This is the fourth year Singapore is conferring the Honorary Citizen Award. President S R Nathan conferred the Honorary Citizen Award that was held at the Istana on 1 March 2007.
Plant Nuseries Along Thomson Road Flooded

These nurseries were sited in what is regarded as the lowest lying part of the 355,220 sq ft nursery cluster. Nearest to the overflowing MacRitchie Reservoir, it bore the full brunt of flood waters last Tuesday. The nursery sells mostly wholesale flowers and garden supplies to high-end offices. The flood water was waist-deep, submerging nurseries along Thomson Road and paralysing cars, vans and lorries.
One-Eyed Dragon Admitted Shoting Nightclub Owner

Tan Chor Lin, nicknamed “One-Eyed Dragon” shot nightclub owner Lim Hock Soon five times in Serangoon. He was sentenced to death.
