Man jailed a year for stealing S$32 From Mosque

Noraizam Abdullah, 40-year-old, admitted to stealing stealing S$32 from a donation box in a mosque to buy food for his family. He took the donation box at the entrance of the Darussalam Mosque at Commonwealth Avenue West. Noraizam, who has a string of previous theft offences, pleaded for leniency. The court also heard that Noraizam, who has a handicapped mother, stole the money to feed his family. He was sentenced to one year in jail.
Sony Opened First Campus

Japanese gaint Sony opened a leadership training centre in Singapore - its first outside of Japan. The Global Uni Campus is located in International Business Park in Jurong. The entire campus covered a 3,400 square feet facility is setup to train middle and senior executives from their Asia-Pacific operations.
DBS ATM Scam Suspect Charged

Police have arrested and charged two Malaysians, aged 27 and 39, for possessing ATM skimming equipment. Police said the two men were involved in the card skimming cases involving DBS ATM in Bugis Street. They were arrested during an island-wide operation by officers from the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) to arrest members of a transnational ATM skimming syndicate.
Seletar Control Tower & Runway Commissioned

Transport Minister, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, commission the new control tower at the Seletar Aerospace Park, which is part of Phases 1 and 2 development. Seletar Aerospace ParkSeletar Aerospace Park development was planned to help position Singapore as a regional aviation hub. By 2014, after the completion of third and final phase, it will be equipped with an Instrument Landing System that will enable all weather flight and night operations.
A Flood Is A Flood

Public Utilities Board (PUB) often use the word "ponding" as a friendly public relation term to describe flooding in Singapore. Environment Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan said "PUB should not have used the word, "ponding". He noted that any form of flooding needs to be addressed. Dr Balakrishnan said: "The technical difference between a flood, a flash flood and a pond - let me just say that as far as I'm concerned." He continued "As far as I'm concerned, I call a spade a spade, a flood is a flood.
CEO Of SMRT Resigned

Ms Saw Phaik Hwa, CEO, has resigned from SMRT to "to pursue personal interests". Her resignation comes after two big breakdowns in SMRT-operated train services.
DBS ATM Breached

Long queue at POSB and DBS ATM, not to withdraw money but to check its account. POSB and DBS Customers have been checking their bank accounts following reports of unauthorised withdrawals of about a Million Singapore Dollars affecting about 700 customers. The bank confirmed that was some fraudulent transactions made in Malaysia.

Three-Quarter Tank Rule to Malaysia For CNG Cars

The 1992 three-quarter tank rule was previously exempted to compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and petrol-CNG vehicles. Now the rule applies to all petrol and CNG fuel supply tanks of Singapore-registered motor vehicles leaving Singapore. The Singapore Customs said the extension is because CNG becomes a dutiable fuel. The Minister for Finance said the excise duty of S$0.20 per kg will be imposed on CNG. Also the CNG pump prices will also include duty and Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Highest Visitor Arrival Into Singapore

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) claimed that tourist arrivals in 2011 reached a record 13.2 million, a rise of 13 percent from the previous year in 2010. Tourism receipts were at a record S$22.2 billion for 2011. The highest number of visitors came from Indonesia at 2,592,000 which is followed by China (1,577,000), Malaysia (1,141,000), Australia (956,000) and India (869,000). The biggest growth sector for Singapore in terms of dollars spent was visits to the Singapore's two casinos - Resort World and Sands - Huat Ah!
