Parkway East Hospital Launched

The Parkway East Hospital is a 118-bed 'boutique' hospital, was launched by Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan, offers a wide range of clinical disciplines and sub-specialties. The hospital also houses specialist clinics that provides a range of medical services. The Parkway East Hospital is located in Joo Chiat Place was recently given a S$2 million facelift. Parkway East Hospital was formerly known as East Shore Hospital. Parkway Holdings acquired the hospital in 1995.


Public Universities Raise Tuition Fees

Singapore three public universities, NUS, NTU and SMU are raising tuition fees for the incoming of students come August 2010. The increase will be sharper for non Singapore citizens. Students in NTU business programmes will be paying $7,490 fee per year. The university fee hike comes after Polytechnics raised their fees for this academic year.


Universal Studios Singapore Open

Universal Studios Singapore Theme Park, Southeast Asia's first, opens to the public at 8:28am. Some of its the rides are making their world debut. The park expects tourists from the all around Southeast Asia and Middle East. Universal Studios located inside Singapore's Sentosa Island and the theme park is within walking distant from Resort World's Casino.


HDB Launch BTO Projects

HDB Launch 2 BTO (Build-To-Order) Projects, Sembawang RiverLodge and Fernvale Ridge. The Sembawang RiverLodge Housing Complex will comprises of 432 units 2-room, 3-room and 4-room Standard flats. Under this launch, 306 units are offered for sale and 126 units will not be offered for public sale at this time as it will be set aside to meet the housing needs of lower income families at a later date. The Fernvale Ridge Housing Complex will comprises of 522 units 5-room, 4-room and 3-room Standard flats.


Canadian International School Lakeshore

The Canadian International School (CIS) announced the partner, Knowledge Universe, to help finance its new $140 million campus in Lakeshore (Jurong West). According to CIS founder and managing director Mr. Thomas Tang, the injection of funds will give Knowledge Universe a majority stake in CIS. Mr. Tang will continue to manage the school while retaining a significant equity stake of CIS.


Singapore Institute of Technology Six New Campuses

The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) annouced that it will have a total of six campuses in Singapore by 2014. Five of the campuses will be co-located within Singapre's 5 polytechnics and SIT Headquarters will be located elsewhere in Singapore. The objective of SIT is to provide a convenient and cheaper pathway for polytechnic graduates seeking a university degree.


Filipina Murdered In Bencoolen

Miss Roselyn Pascua, 30-year-old, from Philiippines was found murdered with several stab wound on her chest. She was found lying face-up in a fifth floor unit, which is typically partitioned into eight small rooms. The late Miss Pacua had lived there for the past three weeks. Peony Mansion is a lodging house in Bencoolen Street where occupants are mainly women from the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand which come and go within two months. According to Peony Mansion's tenants said these partitioned rooms are rented for about S$25 a night.


Government To Build More Executive Condos

The Singapore Government announced that they will build more Executive Condominiums (ECs) to meet the housing needs of what is described as the "sandwiched group". The so-called sandwiched group are those family that are earning betwen S$8,000 to S$10,000 per month. The Government also promised that they will give the S$30,000 housing grant for first time home owners. For the year 2010, ECs will make up 10 per cent of about 12,000 new flats to be built by HDB.


Navy Accquired Six Seahawk Helicopters

The six Navy helicopters were bought from American helicopter maker Sikorsky Corporation. The Seahawk helicopter is powerful detection machine that is packed with sonars and surveillance radars, it is deployed from its frigate to hunt for targets underwater or in the air. Since November 2009, officers from the Singapore Navy have been training with their US counterparts to carry out such integrated maritime helicopter missions. They will return to set up a Seahawk squadron in Singapore at the end of the year (2010).


New Car Prices Sored

New car show rooms across the island have increased prices by about S$5,000 in anticipation of a smaller number of COEs.  Most car buyers understand what the move to slash COE quotas from 5,885 to 4,238 will mean, but are unfazed. However, some others are not wasting time and sales persons are busy closing deals in case prices go up further. COE premiums are expected to go on the upward trend, new cars will be pricier.
