RSAF Pilatus PC-21 Makes its Maiden Flight

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)'s first Pilatus PC-21 aircraft trainer completed its successful flight test in Stans, Switzerland on 21 Jan 2008. The acquisition of the Pilatus PC-21, a highly advanced tandem-seat turboprop aircraft trainer, is part of the RSAF's transformation to enhance the basic training and proficiency of its pilot trainees. The first batch of 6 PC-21 aircraft trainers will be delivered to the RSAF Flying Training School (FTS) for its Basic Wing Course (BWC) at Pearce, Australia in April 2008.
Singapore Purchase 12 More F-15SG

Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) exercised the option to purchase eight more F-15SG fighters as part of the original contract signed in 2005. Along with this buy, an additional order for four F-15SGs was made, bringing the total number of F-15SGs purchased to 24.
RSAF UAV Command Inaugurated

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean officiated at a parade to inaugurate the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command (RSAF UAV Command), at Murai Camp.
RSAF Trainer Aircraft Over Ran Runway In Australia

Singapore Purchase 12 New F-15SG

MINDEF announced that the Boeing F-15SG Strike Eagle had won the contract over the Rafale. The RSAF embarked on its Next Generation Fighter (NGF) programme to replace the aging A-4SU Super Skyhawks. The original list of competitors was shortlisted to the final two - Dassault Rafale and the F-15SG Strike Eagle.
RSAF Changi Air Base (East) Opened

Changi Air Base (East), or Changi East Complex is a new facility extending the facilities of Changi Air Base. Built on 2 square kilometre site of reclaimed land, the new base is located approximately 2 kilometres east of Singapore Changi Airport and approximately 1.5 kilometre west of Changi Naval Base. Ground breaking took place on 15 July 2002.
RSAF F-16 Fighter Jet Crashed

A Singapore Republic Air Force (RSAF) F-16C fighter jet crashed during a routine night training mission south of Barry M. Goldwater Range Military training range in southern Arizona. The plane was piloted by 25-years old, Lieutenant Loo Kwang Han, had taken off from Luke Air Force Base with two other aircraft on a routine night training flight. About 45 minutes into the flight, communication with the missing aircraft was lost. Lieutenant Loo Kwang Han died in the crash.
Two Students Flew In F-16s

Two students from the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC), 18-year old Gabriel Yam and 20-year old Matthew Foo, flew on the F-16 fighter jet. This was the first time that the RSAF provides a familiarisation flight on the F-16 fighters.
ST Aerospace To Conduct RSAF TWC

ST Aerospace was awarded a five-year contract to provide the RSAF training for its trainee pilots until they became full-fledged transport pilots. The six months course teaches pilot trainee to fly in a Beechcraft King Air C90GTi aircraft.
F-35 JSF For Singapore Air Force

The Singapore Ministry of Defence and the United States Department of Defense signed a Letter of Intent this morning to mark Singapore’s intention to participate in the System Design and Development Phase of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme. The arrangement provides an early opportunity to assess the JSF’s ability to meet the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s operational requirements. Singapore will have insights into the JSF’s development progress and be able to conduct studies for integration of Singapore’s requirements into the JSF. As an SCP, Singapore can also request early purchase of the JSF for delivery from 2015 onwards and will probably replaces the F-16 by 2020.
