RSAF 131 Squadron Formed
Thursday, 1st November 1979
The RSAF formed the No. 131 Squadron to provide Advanced Jet Training using ex-French Air Force Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star. Squadron 131 operates out from RSAF Tengah Air Base.
F-5 Fighter Squadron Formed

The new RSAF 144 Squadron, "Black Kites", was formed to welcome the arrival the age of the supersonic jets in Singapore. The Squadron 144 will be home of the new F-5 supersonic jet aircraft. The squadron commander is LTC Michael Teo and will be used to conduct F-5 operational conversion course (OCU) of pilots. LTA Eng Jee Leong, LTA Peh Teng Keng, LTA Sham Chee Keong, LTA Teo Shi On and LTA Lee Chang Rhen were the first batch of pilots to be converted here.
The Spyros disaster
Thursday, 12th October 1978
An explosion occurred in the engine room of the Greek tanker Spyros, at Jurong shipyard. The SAF was asked to assist in evacuating the victims to the hospitals. Immediately, a task force of servicemen, ambulances and RSAF helicopters was mobilised to assist in the casualty evacuation operations. Apart from ferrying the injured by ambulances, the SAF also mobilised RSAF helicopters to ferry victims in critical condition to the Singapore General Hospital. The Spyros disaster which claimed the lives of 80 people and injured many others.
Skyhawk Crashed Into Chicken Farm

Unidentified pilot and copilot ejected safely before their Singapore Air Force A-4 Skyhawk trainer aircraft crashed in a poultry farm destroying a farmhouse and 8,000 chickens.
A-4 Skyhawk Crashed Into The Sea

A pilot was belived killed after his Singapore Air Force A-4 Skyhawk crashed into the sea about 10 miles south of Singapore today. The ministry said the plane was on a training flight.
Four Hawker Hunters Flew Home

Four remaining Hawker Hunter Jet Fighter Aircraft of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) that was stationed in UK for weapon tactical training have been flown home from Britiain by local RSAF pilots. These Hawker Hunter Jets will be use for operational fighter pilot training at Tengah Air Base (RSAF 140 Squadron). The five pilots and a techician was involved in the flight home which was lead by Capt. Harry Lim. The aricraft stopped at 11 countries along its route and covered almost 14,500 kilometers.

RSAF Instructor Killed In Take-off Crash

A Pilot Instructor, Captain O.J. Williams, with the Republic of Singapore Air Force died In hospital after his Strlkemaster Jet crashed shortly after take-off at Changl Airbase. A Defence Ministry statement said he and another pilot had ejected from the training aircraft.
Skyhawk Crash Into South China Sea

LT Cheong Kahl Loong pilot of a Singapore A-4S Skyhawk on a training flight was missing after his A-4S crashed into the South China Sea northeast of Singapore.
Second Local Commander Of Fighter Squadron

Major Gary Teo became the second local commander of Fighter Squadron and the first local commander of the A-4 Skyhawk, RSAF 142 Squadron Squadron. Major Teo was a member of the first batch of Singapore jet pilots. Update: 142 Squadron was eventually disbanded in 2004. At the time of disbandment, the squadron had 18 T/A-4SU Super Skyhawks (Fighter-bomber) in service.
