The 121 Squadron Formed

The 121 Squadron "Gannet" Squadron (renamed to "Brahminy Kite" in 1994) was formed with the commissioning of the Short Skyvan 3M. The primary role is to provide dedicated wide area maritime air surveillance for search and resource operations, aeromedical evacuations and the transportation of personnel.
Second Fighter Squadron Formed
Wednesday, 15th November 1972
The second SADC (RSAF) Squadron, named the The 141 Squadron "Merlins" Squadron. was formed. The new squadron operates 25 refurbished Hawker Hunter jet aircraft. The squadron operates out from Tengah Air Base. Update: 144 Squadron had relocated to Paya Lebar Air Base in 1986. And change older Hawker Hunter FR.74S to the newer F-5E Tiger in 1992.
AETI Inaugurated
Sunday, 1st October 1972
The Air Engineering Training Institute (AETI) was inaugurated. AETI is the new centralised training school for SADC (RSAF) technical personnel. The pioneering batch of AETI students was trained by expatriate trainers mainly from Britain (ex-RAF personnel).
Pilot Training Squadron Formed
Monday, 1st May 1972
150 Squadron was form on this day. The squadron is based in the Changi Air Base with is home SIAI-Marchetti SF.260. The fourteen SF.260 will be used for the basic flying training role. The new aircraft replaces the Cessna 172K which was in service since 1969 which was transfer to Junior Flying Club (Singapore Youth Flying Club, SYFC).
Singapore Youth Flying Club Established

The Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC) was established in December 1971 as the Junior Flying Club (JFC) by the then newly-formed Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). Its mission is to promote aviation among youths and inculcate in them a strong passion for flying. This is done through its aeromodelling courses for secondary school students and flying training for JC and Polytechnic students. Its vision is to be a world class aviation training centre for youths and it strives to develop them to take up a career in the Republic of Singapore Air Force.
SADC Took Over Tengah
Wednesday, 15th September 1971
Singapore Air Defence Command (SADC) took over full operational control of Tengah Air Base from the British Royal Air Force (RAF).
First Batch Of Trainee Pilots Graduated
Friday, 27th November 1970
Eight cadets graduated from the No.1 FTS Course - 2LT Goh Yong Seng, 2KT Noel Tam, 2LT Wong Hee Jit, 2LT Pal Sharma, 2LT Robin Thomas, 2LT Ng Seng Ngiap and 2KT Bertram Yong. They were trained using the new fleet of BAC Strikemasters Mk 84 Trainer Jet in Singapore.
First Fighter Squadron Formed

The first SADC (RSAF) Squadron, named the The 140 Squadron "Osprey" Squadron. was formed. The new squadron operates 20 refurbished Hawker Hunter jet aircraft. The squadron operates out from Tengah Air Base.
Three BAC 167 Strikemasters Mk 84 Flew In
Saturday, 18th October 1969
Three brand new BAC Strikemasters Mk 84 flew in to Tengah Air Base. The are the first batch of the 16 aircraft purchased second hand from the Royal Air Force (RAF) of Britian. These 16 aircraft will be used for Pilot training at SAF Flying Training School (FTS). These planes was eventually used to form RSAF 130 Squadron.
First Batch Of Fighter Pilot
Wednesday, 15th October 1969
The first batch of four fighter pilot return home from UK. They have gone through a tough and demanding course in UK. It started when 6 training pilots were made to go through their basic flying course in RAF Leeming, then advanced flying training at RAF Valley (in Holyhead, Gwynedd , Isle Of Anglesey, United Kingdom) and finally to type-training on the Hawker Hunter at RAF Chivenor. Only 4 managed to complete the course - 2LT Gary Yeo, 2LT John Norfor, 2LT Timothy De Souza and OCT Hoe Kim Bock - graduated and received their "wings".
