Contraband Cigarettes Seized At Woodlands Checkpoint

Officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Singapore Customs seized nearly Ten Thousands cartons of contraband cigarettes worth nearly One Singapore Dollars at Woodlands Checkpoint. The loot was hidden in a Malaysia-registered lorry which was carrying 789 pieces of plywood from Malaysia into Singapore. A 31-year-old Malaysian Lorry Driver was arrested. If convicted of dealing with contraband cigarettes, first-time offenders could be jailed a maximum of three years and fined up to twenty times the amount of duty evaded.
