Trainee Pilots Landed In Seletar Air Base

Wednesday, 17th July 1968

2 Cessna 172H aircraft piloted by Singapore Air Defence Command (SADC) pilot trainees landed at Royal Air Force Seletar (RAF Seletar). This marked the transfer of the fortnight-old Singapore Armed Forces Flying Training School to Seletar from its temporary premises at Maju Camp and the birth of military flight training in Singapore. SADC's formed the first flying unit called Falcon Squadron.

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing fixed-wing aircraft. The Cessna 172 was first flown in 1955. The 1967 model 172H has a shorter-stroke nose gear to reduce drag and improve the appearance of the aircraft in flight. The 1967 model 172H sold for USD $11,000.
