Dr Susan Lim In Court To Answer Charges

Dr. Susan Lim of Susan Lim Surgery, located in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, was accused of overcharging her patient (the late Pengiran Anak Hajah Damit) with a medical bill of $24million. Her patient, a woman member of Brunei's royal family, for treatment by other doctors where she allegedly inflated a third party specialist's bill by 520 times. The bill was presented to Brunei High Commission.

Susan Lim was born in Singapore, where she was educated at Singapore Chinese Girls' School and the Raffles Institution. In 1974, she was awarded a scholarship under the Colombo Plan to study medicine at Monash University in Australia. In 1990, Dr Lim performed the first successful liver transplant in Asia. She is often described by her admirer as a 'medical dynamo'. She is also the founder, chair and CEO of Stem Cell Technologies (SCTi) which, in collaboration with the National University of Singapore's Department of Surgery, is conducting path-breaking research into the use of adult stem cells in the quest for a cure for diabetes.
