Singapore Thieves' Market Squeezed

The infamous Thieves' Market Market (public fleamarket) at Sungei Road was cut by half due to the construction of the new downtown MRT Line. Vendors were seen scrambling and fighting for space to hawk their wares.

The space were traditionally allocated on a "first-come-first-served" basis. Each vendor is allocated a 1 sq metre space is given out "free-of-charge". The area and its 336 slots is managed by the National Environmental Agency (NEA) or the Ministry of Environment.
