PM Lee Shines Spotlight At Temasek Review Emeritus

Editor of Temasek Review Emeritus, www.tremeritus.com, was served a lawyer's letter from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for carrying allegedly defamatory remarks on his website. In the letter, Mr Lee's lawyer wrote "...alleged that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong secured or was instrumental in securing the appointment of his wife, Madam Ho Ching, as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited for nepotistic motives."

PM Urged Citizens Not To Panic

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that the Singapore Government is watching closely for signs of an expected economic slowdown and will prepare the upcoming Budget accordingly. The impending down turn due to the European Debt Crisis may not be as severe as the 2008 Financial Crisis. He urged the citizen not to panic and to stay prudent. On that positive note, the Singapore Stock Market shot up more than 10% in the first month of trading since the beginning of the year, and into the new "Dragon Year" in the Lunar Calendar - Huat Ah!.

Kong Hee Huat Chye - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong [ 李显龙 ] hoped "fervently" that Singaporeans would boost the city-state's stubbornly-low birth rates in the coming Year of the Dragon. Superstitious Chinese believe children born during the Year of the Dragon [ 龙年 ], the symbol of ancient emperors, will possess courage and wisdom and bring luck to the entire family. Lee Hsien Loong himself was a dragon baby born to Singapore First Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, in 1952. He was given a name with a dragon [ 龙 ] character in it.

Lee Kuan Yew Has Peripheral Neuropathy

Singapore's Ex-MM (Minister Mentor) Lee Kuan Yew confirmed he is suffering from Sensory Peripheral Neuropathy, which makes his walking unsteady. The elderly statesman were ofter seen walking in a "slow motion" manner. Mr Lee said, despite of this illness, that he will continue to contribute to Singapore as long as his health permits.

During the ceremony held in the State Room of the Istana, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that Singapore had just gone through a watershed 2011 General Election. Almost all the seats were contested, for the first time in decades. Many Singaporeans were voting also for the first time. Singapore has entered a new phase in its political development. Head of government included Prime Minister LEE Hsien Loong (since 12 August 2004); Deputy Prime Minister TEO Chee Hean (since 1 April 2009) and Deputy Prime Minister THARMAN Shanmugaratnam (since 21 May 2011); Senior Minister HENG Chee How (since 21 May 2011).

Deputy Prime Minister (cum Home Affairs Minister) Wong Kan Seng, Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan, and Minister for Transport Raymond Lim, will leave the Cabinet. According to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong the three men had previously expressed a desire to step down but decided to stay on to fight the recently concluded May 7 Singapore General Election. Wong Kan Seng is often blamed for Terrorist Mas Selamat escape, Mah Bow Tan for sky rocketing cost of public housing and Raymond Lim was blamed for the high cost of transportation in Singapore.

Lee Kuan Yew Resigned

Singapore founding father Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) has resigned from the country's cabinet, ceding leadership to his son, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. LKY has been sitting inside the cabinet for the last 52 years. The move comes after his political party's worst election result since 1965.

PAP Won 2011 General Election

Singapore’s incumbent PAP (People's Action Party) won the 2011 General Election. It was the 16th General Election in Singapore and the 11th since independence. The governing People's Action Party (PAP) secured their 13th consecutive term in office since 1959. PAP won all but six seats to the opposition party (Workers' Party).

Grand Opening Of Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort

The Marina Bay Sands (MBS) was declared fully opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The MBS Integrated Resort (IR) had its soft launch April 2010. Revellers at the Bayfront Promenade and Event Plaza was treated to a water and light show which premiered at 8:08pm on 17 February 2011.

Man-Made Floating Wetland Opened

The Sengkang Floating Wetland located within Sengkang Riverside Park was officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The Sengkang Floating Wetland in Punggol Reservoir is a floating structure half the size of a football field - the first of this scale to be built in Singapore. The wetland links Anchorvale Community Club to the Sengkang Riverside Park.
