Between 2001 and 2005, Mohd F###d A###n sweet-talked his victims into 'investing' in his food catering business by promising 50 per cent returns every month! He pocketed more than $500,000 from his victims. Mohd first preyed on his neighbour, Mr Omar, age 56, in mid-2001, when they were living in Bukit Batok.


Duo Jailed For Fake Ten Thousand Dollars Notes

Two Indonesian men were each jailed for nine years on for using and possessing fake SGD $10,000 currency notes. Akhmad Zamroni, age 41, a free-lance consultant, and Jerry Ribelard Bollu Eoh, age 53, unemployed, pleaded guilty to using as genuine a counterfeit $10,000 at the Mustafa Centre in exchange for smaller denomination on 27 October 2009. They also admitted to having 60 pieces of fake $10,000 currency notes, intending to use them as genuine, the same day. The court heard that both men conspired with others in Indonesia to exchange fake $10,000 notes in Singapore for other currency, and share the proceeds.

Ng Teng Fong (1928 - 2010) was Singapore's 11 Billion Dollars Man. The late Teng Fong owns the development companies Far East Organization in Singapore and Sino Group in Hong Kong. His company also controls Singapore-listed food and drinks maker Yeo Hiap Seng (Yeo's). At the time of his death, Sino Group was one of Hong Kong's largest real estate developers, and Far East Organization remained one of the largest landholders in Singapore. Far East Organization also owns The Fullerton Singapore and numerous other landmark hotels and other properties. Wake was held at his mansion, his home for the last 40 years, at Watten Estate Road and he was buried in Chua Chu Kang Christian Cemetery.


CPF To Extend 4% Interest

The Singapore Government has extend the 4 per cent floor (minimum rate) for interest on CPF savings for the Special, Medisave and Retirement Accounts (SMRA) until 31 December 2011. Explaining the move in a statement, the spokeperson said that despite Singapore's strong economic recovery, interest rates have remained low this year. And when on to say, added that the sharp drop in interest rates at the expiry of the 4 per cent floor rate may impact CPF members who may not have benefited fully from the economic recovery yet.


Singapore University of Technology and Design

Singapore's fourth public-funded university, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2011, has been named the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). The new university will admit its first intake of up to 500 students in 2011 and students will have four degree programmes to choose from Architecture & Sustainable Design, Engineering Product Design, Engineering Systems & System Design, and Information Engineering & Design.  First-year students will be exposed to foundation studies in the areas of mathematics, science, introductory humanities and social sciences – all in the context of design. They will also get to learn about entrepreneurship and management during each of the four-year degree programme. The university (medium-sized) will eventually cater to some 4,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduates.


Ming Yi guilty of misappropriating funds

Ven. Ming Yi, a Buddhist monk and the founder and former chief executive of Ren Ci Hospital, was convicted by a district court of four counts of fraud, falsification of accounts, misappropriating funds and giving false information to the Commissioner of Charities. He was sentenced for 10 months in jail.


Singapore Institute of Technology Formed

The HSBC Women's Champions 2009 golf tournament was held at Tanah Merah Country Club. The HSBC Women's Champions is a golf tournament for professional female golfers that is part of the LPGA Tour. The Winner for the 2009 game was Jiyai Shin of South Korea. She took home USD300,000.


Sunshine Empire's Owner Charged

Jackie Hoo Choon Cheat, a director of Sunshine Empire Pte Ltd, and James Phang Wah were charged under Section 340 of the Companies Act, 1 charge of failure to maintain proper accounting records of Sunshine Empire under Section 199 of the Companies Act and 8 charges of criminal breach of trust as an agent of Sunshine Empire under Section 409 of the Penal Code. Sunshine Empire is a defunct company, with all assets frozen by the Singapore Court. It was set up in 2006 as a Multi Level Marketing (MLM) company, based in Singapore. Investigation by Singapore's Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) had was found that Sunshine Empire generated a revenue of $189 million in just over a year. Sunshine Empire is a Pyramid scheme, with victims in East Asian Countries.


Rich Barry conned 4 thirty-something women

A man, known as Barry on Internet Chatline, who cheated four women he came to know on Internet chatlines of nearly $40,000 was jailed for 27 months. The 29 year-old, Tan S#e L###g (aka Berry) boasted that he came from a very wealthy family, was living in Bukit Timah. Two of his victims were conned after he said he was looking for a personal assistant who would get $15,000 to $20,000 a month to run his errands. His ploy was to get his "personal assistant" to pay for his expenses first and he promised to reimbursed them later. Both victim handled over some of their savings. After that, Rich Barry disappeared.
