RSAF Instructor Killed In Take-off Crash

Wednesday, 28th January 1976

A Pilot Instructor, Captain O.J. Williams, with the Republic of Singapore Air Force died In hospital after his Strlkemaster Jet crashed shortly after take-off at Changl Airbase. A Defence Ministry statement said he and another pilot had ejected from the training aircraft.


Heavy Rain Brought Flood to Henderson Road District

Monday, 3rd November 1958

More than 1,000 people were fed by the Social Welfare Department after widespread floods hit various parts of Singapore today. Hardest hit was the Henderson Road and Red Hill District, where hundreds of attap houses were flooded, making cooking and eating impossible. More than two inches of rain fell in Singapore between 11 am and 2 pm. At least one life was lost – that of a boy, who was swept down a monsoon drain. In 1954, a similar incident happened in Tiong Bahru Area.


Boy Drown In Kim Seng River

Sunday, 6th June 1954

A nine-year-old boy was drown in Kim Seng River opposite the Great World Park. He was the son of a fishmonger living in Tiong Bahru village. It was believed that he fell into the monsoon drain near his home and was carried away by the floods water caused by the heavy rain.
