RSAF helicopter intruded into Malaysian air space

The villagers in Gelang Patah, Johor, claimed that an RSAF helicopter was operating without the knowledge and consent of Malaysia. This incident have angered many Malaysian.


Elephants Sighted On Tekong

Three wild Asian elephants (Elephas Maximus) were spotted on Pulau Tekong. Apparently, the runaway elephants had swum 1.5km across the Johor Straits to reach the island. The three wild elephants had apparently swum 1.5 km. across the Johor Straits to reach Pulau Tekong. They were probably dislocated from their natural habitat in the jungles of eastern Johor by logging and forest-clearing activities. On the morning of 7 June 1990, two of the elephants, both males of about 2.3 m. tall were finally recaptured. The third male elephant, about 2 m. tall was caught later in the afternoon. By the evening of 9 June 1990, the elephants were loaded onto lorries and were taken back to Malaysia.


Smoke-Free Week

A smoke-free week was also held from 24 May to 31 May 1990. The slogan for the campaign was "Growing up without tobacco".


COE Introduced

Tuesday, 1st May 1990

Certificates of Entitlement (COE) give Singaporeans the right to own a vehicle. In Singapore, anyone wishing to buy a car or motorcycle has to bid for a Certificate of Entitlement (COE). Only public buses, school buses and emergency vehicles are exempted from this scheme. A certain number of COEs would be released every month for bidding. Once successful and only when one owns a COE that registration of the vehicle could take effect. The vehicle entitlement is valid for only 10 years and is transferred with the ownership of the vehicle.


RSAF men injured after chopper landed in Thailand

Four men of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) suffered injuries when their Super Puma helicopter made an emergency landing during a routine training flight in Thailand. Three of them sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the Koke Kathiem Military Base.

This is the Fifth Asian Aerospace (AA90) show in Singapore with some 25,000 trade and 50,000 public visitors attended the five-day Asian Aerospace '90 show at Singapore's Changi International Exhibition and Conference Centre (CIECC).


Maintenance of Religious Harmony Bill Read

The Maintenance of Religious Harmony Bill was read today in Parliament. The bill aims to prevent acts that threaten religious harmony in Singapore.
