Temasek Holdings Brought Shin Corp

Shin Corporation PLC shares that was owned by Thaksin Shinawatra family sold its remaining 49.6 percent stake in the company to nominees of Temasek Holdings, the Singapore government's investment arm, for US$1.88 billion.


SIA's Golden Bird Takes Off

Singapore Airlines, or SIA, took to the air at dawn which heralded a new era in the Singapore's aviation history. The first SIA flight SQ108, a Boeing 737 aircraft left for Kuala Lumpur at 6.14am.


Rex Cinema Opened

Shaw Brothers' latest chain of theatres, the air-conditioned Rex Cinema showed it first picture. Located at the junction of Bukit Timah Road and Selegie Road.


Pan-Am Resumed Flights To Manila

Monday, 29th April 1946

Pan-American Airways (Pan-Am) resumes flight between Singapore and Manila. Flights takes-off from Changi and for seaplanes from Kallang Aerodrome.


Tiger Started Brewing In Singapore

Saturday, 1st October 1932

Tiger Beer, Singapore's second locally brewed beer, started brewing at River Valley Road. Tiger Beer Brand is owned by Malayan Breweries Limited (MBL) , which is a joint venture between Fraser & Neave (F&N is a leading soft drinks manufacturer in Singapore) and Holland’s Heineken Beer. The “It's Time for a Tiger” slogan for Tiger Beer has run for decades since its inception.


ABC Was Established

Thursday, 1st January 1931

The Archipelago Brewery Company (ABC) opened its first commercial brewery in Alexandra Road. ABC was started by Brauerei Beck & Co., a German brewery, which started bottling Anchor Beer.
