The President's Star Charity 2010 saw sure footed Le Parkour practitioner, celebrities, international artistes, dance enthusiasts and even Shaolin Fighter Monks wowing the audience for two-and-a-half hours at MediaCorp Television Station Studio. The charity show was capture live on High Definition and broadcasted live on Free-To-Air Channel 5 TV. The show is supposed to be a somber charity event but the telecasted show had so many unrelated commercial advertisement (from beauty products to luxury goods) in between segments.


Raffles Place Temple to be Restored

Ngee Ann Kongsi foundation, Yueh Hai Ching Temple, will commit $5 million to restore it over two years, beginning next year. Yueh Hai Ching Temple was built in 1855 at its same current location near Raffles Place. Its rooftop sculptures have dulled in colour and chipped. The temple's interior rosewood beams have all lost some of its joint. Some of its concrete wall carvings turn into powder upon touch. The temple makeover is schedule to begin after Chinese New Year in February 2011.


Aermacchi M-346 Jet Trainer For RSAF

Singapore Defence Ministry (MINDEF) announce in September 2010 a half billion dollars (S$543 million) contract to a consortium consisting of Italian manufacturer Alenia Aermacchi will provide the Aermacchi M-346 aircraft; Honeywell will supply each of the 12 aircraft the F124 engines (S$54 million each); Boeing, will provide training and simulator systems; and ST Aerospace, will provide 25-year maintenance services and overall management of the Advanced Jet Trainer replacement project. Alenia Aermacchi finalized contracts with ST Aerospace in June 2011 to provide logistics support for the fleet. Alenia Aermacchi M-346 "Master" Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) lead-in fighter for RSAF's Fighter Wings Course (FWC) located in Cazaux in France.


Singapore Sports Hub Groundbreaking Ceremony

The old National Stadium at Kallang had surrendered to the demolition ball as it is being torn down to make way for the Billion Dollars Singapore Sports Hub. The Sports Hub will be Singapore's premier land and sea sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub with integrated programming. the Sports Hub will include the following facilities: a new 55,000-capacity National Stadium with a retractable roof; a 6,000-capacity indoor Aquatic Centre that meets world tournament standards; and a 3,000-capacity multi-purpose arena which will be scalable and flexible in layout. After a two-year delay, the groundbreaking ceremony was finally held for this billion dollar installation in Kallang.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said in People's Association's 50th anniversary celebrations that nation building is not just about building the infrastructure. Nation building is also about community bonding.


Racial quotas reached in some neighbourhoods

Parliamentary Secretary for National Development Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman announced at 14 per cent of 162 Housing Development Board (HDB) neighbourhoods reached ethnic quota. The Ethnic Integration Policy (EIP), which began in 1989, stipulates ethnic quotas in HDB estates to prevent the creation of ethnic enclaves. Dr Maliki was responding to public concern that for flat owners who said they had sold their property below market valuation because the buyer had to be from a particular ethnic group. The problem was especially acute for flat owners from minority ethnicities and feel that they are disadvantaged as a result of their ethnic minority status.


Mass Community Walk

In a display of community bonding, about 85,000 participants took part in the 2 kilometres One Community Walk event that was held at various locations islandwide. The biggest turnout was in Khatib, where about 7000 residents showed up for the walk. The walk was organised by the People's Association (PA) to commemorate the 50th anniversary and in support the coming Youth Olympic Games.


Flooding Cannot Be Prevented

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has said no amount of engineering can prevent flooding in Singapore. He said after touring the waterfront development at the areas around Kallang River.


PM Visited RSAF Detachment At Mountain View

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited the Peace Carvin V detachment facility located at Mountain View (US) Air Force Base, Idaho, USA. Peace Carvin V is a partnership between Singapore and the US that spans 25 years. Singapore bought 24 new F-15SG jets under the tie-up arrangement. It is at this base that RSAF pilots are trained to fly and operate the advanced fighter aircraft, which makes up part of the SAF's 3rd-Generation defence capabilities. The F-15SG squadron is part of the air force's Air Combat Command which plans, controls and executes air warfare operations. The RSAF F-15SG detachment was inaugurated in 2009.


CPF Minimum Sum Increased To $123K

The prevailing CPF Minimum Sum (MS) will be revised to $123,000, up 5% from $117,000. Members who can set aside the full MS will receive about $1,100 per month when they reach their draw down age. The new MS will apply to CPF members who turn 55 from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011.
