Mas Selamat Back In Singapore

Mas Selamat bin Kastari, a leader of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network, who was captured in Johor last year, was send back to Singapore by the Malaysian authorities. Mas Selamat was transferred back to Whitley Road Detention Centre, the very same facility he had escaped from in February 2008. There was probably a "Selamat Datang ke Singapura Mas Selamat" banner in his cell.
Jailed For Robbing Goldsmith

Koh Koon Hong, a 35-year-old man, had pleaded guilty to the heist at Goldsmith located along New Upper Changi Road with Tan Choon Huat, 52, and Lee Yeow Kwang, 48, while armed with a 45cm-long knife on 23 April 2010. The three escaped on two stolen motorcycles and later sold the million dollar loot to a goldsmith at City Plaza for half a million dollars. The goldsmith melted the items into five gold rods which were later recovered by the police. Koh, who was arrested four days later, was given $80,000 for his part in the crime.
Jailed For Having Unnatural Sex

A man was jailed for four weeks for having sex with another man in a male toilet at first floor of Mustafa Centre and then lied about it. The 23-year-old Malay man had met another 49-year-old Chinese man at a coffeeshop near Mustafa Centre at around 1am on 14th December 2009. Both agreed to engage in a sexual activity at the public restroom located inside the Mustafa Centre, a 24-hours shopping centre.
Pizza Delivery Boy Jailed For Killer Litter

A pizza delivery boy, Tan Kwan Sin, was sentenced to six weeks' jail for throwing the leg of a chair out of his flat on 31 January 2010 by the district judge. In his appeal, Tan's lawyer asked the high court to sentence Tan to probation instead of a jail term because he had an IQ of 87 and was under stress as his parents were going through a divorce at that time. Justice V K Rajah did not agree and said it was pure luck that Tan's act had not caused a more serious injury. The judge however acknowledged that the six-week sentence by the district judge was excessive and reduced Tan's sentence to three weeks in prison.
Jailed For Asking Others To Take Rap

A 51-year-old man, Charlie Lim Chau Lee, was jailed for six months for asking another person to take the rap (blame) for his traffic offence. Charlie was caught speeding by a speed trap camera along Lornie Road at 4pm on 18 August 2008. He received a summons from the Traffic Police, informing him of a fine of S$150 and six demerit points. Charlie Lim then approached 39-year-old woman, Lim Ah Hwa, to take the blame.
Police Officer Jailed For Dishonesty

A twenty-seven-year-old police officer, Mohamed Hanafi Mohamed Riza, who kept S$70 from a wallet handed over to him by a good samaritan, Mr Ronnie Woo, who had earlier found the wallet. However Hanafi kept the money and discard the wallet on 4 August 2009, when he was manning the Jurong West Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC). District Judge Jasvender Kaur sentenced Hanafi to four months' jail and said that sentence was appropriate as the public expected the highest integrity from police officers. For misappropriation, Hanafi could have been jailed up to seven years and a fined.
Hotel 81 Prostitution Link

41-year-old Chu Poh Yong, licensee of Hotel 81, was charged with five counts of allowing his rooms to be used for prostitution activities. It was believed that he have committed the offences at two of its branches, Hotel 81 Cosy at Jiak Chuan Road in the Chinatown area and Hotel 81 Mayo at Jalan Besar, between 27 April and 19 June 2010.
Sunshine Empire's Owner Goes To Jail

In what is believed to be the biggest Ponzi-like scheme in Singapore, 49-year old James Phang Wah, the head of the now-defunct Sunshine Empire, has been sentenced to nine years' jail and fined $60,000. He was convicted on the charge of fraudulent trading under fraudulent trading under the Companies Act and all the charges involving criminal breach of trust as an agent and falsification of Sunshine Empire’s accounts under the Penal Code.

A 43-year-old woman, Miss Mok Soo Khing, was caught with items bearing the Louis Vuitton trademark at the Woodlands Checkpoint in October 2009. Mok bought counterfeit branded goods from a number of shops in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, in order to sell them in Singapore for a profit. Woman fined S$48,300 for importing fake designer goods.
SLA Director Pocketed Twelve Million Dollars

A 40-year-old SLA (Singapore Land Authority) executive, Mr. Koh Seah Wee, found a "Lohbang" (gap) in the Statutory Board's procurement system. He then got SLA to pay large sums of money to 10 firms for computer and IT services for almost two-years from 2008 with no actual delivery. Seven of these companies were owned by a 31-year-old businessman. Mr. Koh then use the ill-gotten public money to buy his 38-year-old wife a flashy million dollar Lambo sports car and a million dollar freehold apartment Axis @ Siglap.
