SIA Crew Arrested In Australia For Carrying Heroin

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) cabin crew member was arrested at Sydney International Airport after he allegedly tried to bring in 1.6kg of heroin in Australia. Nicholas Tan Ngat Liang, 50, was a leading steward who was on duty during the flight from Singapore to Sydney.


Last Call For SIA Boeing 747

After four decades of service, Singapore Airlines bids farewell to the last of its Boeing 747 fleet on Good Friday. Singapore Airlines (SIA) held special return flights from Singapore to Hong Kong to commemorate the aircraft's retirement. In 1973, SIA received delivery of the first two Boeing 747s. In 2003 at its peak, it had 51 Boeing 747 aircrafts. The worst time for SIA 747 was when SQ006 crashed in Taipei in 2000.


Singapore Airlines Preparing For A Slowdown

Singapore Airlines (SIA), the world’s second-largest carrier by market value, had asked its pilots to volunteer for unpaid leave for up to two years as it struggles with a slowdown in the aviation sector. Demand for international passenger and cargo flights is falling, due mainly the European consumers are cutting spending.


Let's Scoot Off

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled its long-haul budget carrier. It was given a name of Scoot. Scoot will begin flights from mid-2012 with a fleet of four Boeing B777-200 aircraft purchased from SIA. "Scoot is for you," is its tagline. The budget airline is expected to have 14 planes by 2016, which will let you "scoot-off" to places like India, the Middle East, Africa and possibly even Europe.


Airbus A380 superjumbo Went into Service

The world's biggest passenger plane, the Airbus A380 super-jumbo, completed its first commercial flight today. With 471 passengers on board the giant Singapore Airlines aircraft touched down safely at Sydney International airport, having flown to Australia from Singapore Changi Airport. Singapore Airlines with flight number SQ380 between Singapore and Sydney. The Airbus A380 with serial number MSN003 (registered as 9V-SKA) was delivered to Singapore Airlines on 15 October 2007


Boeing Singapore Aviation Training Centre Opened

Boeing opened its new $100 million aviation training centre in Singapore for air crew and mechanics. The 7,000 sq m facility in Changi North Rise will be run by aircraft manufacturer Boeing's training subsidiary, Alteon Training. When fully operational, it will house six full flight simulators and train up to 6,000 pilots, flight attendants and mechanics.  It have two new Boeing 787 simulators.


Singapore Airlines SQ006 Crashed

At 15:17 UTC, 23:17 Taipei local time, Singapore Airlines Boeing 747 took off from the wrong runway in Taipei during a typhoon, destroying the aircraft and killing 83 of the 179 occupants. Singapore Airlines Flight 006 (SIA SQ6) was a scheduled flight from Singapore Changi Airport to Los Angeles International Airport via Chiang Kai-Shek Airport (now Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport) in Taiwan. SQ006 was the first fatal crash of a Singapore Airlines aircraft. The Boeing 747-400 aircraft, registration 9V-SPK, was delivered to Singapore Airlines on 21 January 1997.


SQ 117 Hijacked

The Singapore Airlines flight SQ 117 took off from Subang Airport in Kuala Lumpur with 129 passengers and crew onboard at 1815 hrs. Four passengers who claimed to be Pakistanis took control of the plane when it was enroute to Singapore. The plane landed and parked at Changi Airport's Runway One at 2215 hrs. The hijackers claimed to be members of the Pakistan People's Party. They wanted the release of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's husband. The hijackers issued a five-minute deadline at 27 March 0645 hrs after which they threatened to kill one passenger every ten minutes if their demands were not acceded to. SAF Elite Commandos stormed the plane, killing four Pakistani hijackers and freeing all passengers and crew. The rescue of SQ 117 was over in just 30 seconds and ended at 0650 hrs.


SIA Boeing 747 Has Landed

SIA's Golden Bird Takes Off

Singapore Airlines, or SIA, took to the air at dawn which heralded a new era in the Singapore's aviation history. The first SIA flight SQ108, a Boeing 737 aircraft left for Kuala Lumpur at 6.14am.
